Anyone applied for or renewed their passport recently? How long did it take?

Hi,

Starting to panic a bit, as we're applying online to renew my dds passport, but she's recently changed her name by deed poll, so it's made the whole process much more complicated. Have had to gather lots of information.

It says it should take a maximum of 3 weeks to receive your new passport, but we're going away in 3 weeks exactly! Confused

I would have done the fast track service, when you go in to the passport office and get it in a week, but my DP had already started applying and paid online, so this isn't an option anymore.

Apparently you can call them once they've received all your paperwork and ask for them to speed it up, at a price obviously, but there's no guarantees you'll be accepted.

Anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?

Thanks.

Thanks Watto1 for the photo info. I don’t fancy my chances of getting the photo right so will try a shop Smile

I put my married name and sent my marriage certificate.

I renewed my passport at the end of August and I had to change to my married name. I applied using my married name and it asked for my maiden/previous names. I sent my marriage certificate to them the day after I submitted the application and it only took a week to come back from when I posted it (I didn't pay to fast track it).

We got all new passports for 2 adults and 3 kids in about 10 days. And that was with one wrong birth cert sent in so had to resend the proper one!

Right. Have got all the documents (there are bloody loads) and gone over the check list again and again. Sending it special delivery later. Wish me luck!

I applied for 3 children’s passports 3 weeks ago. One renewal of expired one, 2 new ones. Had to send loads of stuff - court orders, deed poll, birth certificates etc. All done and back back within a week. Fab!

MyArris · 25/09/2018 08:19

Oh and I did it myself, no check and send, no fast track.

Dh did his although it was a straight forward renewal was back in less than a week. Mine last year was another story.

PropagandaMachine · 25/09/2018 09:15

DH did his online a couple of weeks ago. They seem to have a new and better system. He didn't have to get photos signed by someone in a narrow range of professions Hmm. Was all very quick.

Applied online for a renewal passport last sunday and had the new one in five days. Very efficient service and hassle free.

Renewed two of ours last month both with deed poll change of names and new photos, one was back within a week, the other one took 2 weeks.

PretzelPrincess · 25/09/2018 10:24

Just did ours last week. Mixture of name change/ new passports and renewals. Back in 3 days 🤷🏽‍♀️ I was very impressed. They also keep you up to date with text messages that they've received your paperwork etc.
