Road trip from south coast to Inverness... where to pit stop?

I’m planning a half term road trip to see lice ness! Obviously it’s a long way so I’m thinking that we will stop one night on the way there, two nights in or near Inverness and one night on the way back. Where would you recommend we stop? What shall we see on the way? I was considering Blackpool... or maybe somewhere in the peak or Lake District? It’s me and DH and two young teens - any ideas/recommendations would be most welcome Smile

Kendal? It’s close to the motorway and plenty to see and do nearby.

We used to do Inverness to Bristol alot. We usually dud it in one go over night. Carlisle was pretty much halfway. We used to do a petrol stop at the Tesco there just off the motorway as petrol cheaper.
We did stop off a few times. Kendal Sticks in my mind as a nice place.
If it's pitstops for a loo and coffee I can recommend Tebay services just south of the lakes.
Can't really recommend nice hotels etc as we really used to just go for it in the one go.

Hopefully someone else can be more helpful.

The English half of the journey is pretty dull apart from The Lakes. Once you get to Stirling and up the A9 there are loads ofn0laces to stop off and see.

Stirlingb itself is ok and you could walk up to The Wallace Monument, Pitlochry is lovely. There is a distillery near there, Aviemore amd Carrbridge. I personally dont get excited about Culloden but it has a huge visitor centre. Foyer Falls at Loch Ness can be impressive if there jas been recent rainfall.
