How much would you pay for a Gin Tasting (with childcare during event)?

Would you rather pay more for a ticket, along the lines of £40 per person, if it included free food, gin, and about 3 hours of event crèche or nanny-service?

Also, what time would be ideal to do something like this?

3:30 to 6:30, home in time for bedtimes?
Or 7:30-10:30, get a sitter and get home before midnight?

I would have said that's a child free evening...

RyanStartedTheFire · 21/09/2018 11:38

I wouldn't go to a gin tasting with my children even if there was childcare. It would have to be a childfree evening for me. They'd still have to be transported home, then details like taxis and car seats become a pain.

ClothOnASloth · 21/09/2018 11:39

A lot will depend on the demographics.

£40 would be extremely expensive for our area, even if it included childcare.

Literally zero.

heartofgold · 21/09/2018 11:41

surely it's after the gin tasting you need the childcare?

Hoppinggreen · 21/09/2018 11:41

Nothing
I wouldn’t want to take my dc and I wouldn’t want to go somewhere where there were other people’s dc

lalaloopyhead · 21/09/2018 11:42

Child-Free event for me.

I went to a gin tasting evening not long ago, was £25 for 4 gins and a buffet. For me it started too late, about 8 I think and the food didn't come out until about 9.30.

I think an earlier start and earlier food would have made the evening more enjoyable. I was starving and also as I didn't want to be too late home I felt like I was having to knock back the drinks in order to fit them all in.

anotherangel2 · 21/09/2018 11:44

As above. Plus I would not be leaving my child with a stranger in a strange place to get drunk.

3 hours of drinking followed by wrangling your child home does not sound like fun.

BajanRumPunch · 21/09/2018 11:44

Awesome, thanks for the feedback everyone. I just know event crèches are very popular with mum retreats - so that aside, how much would you be willing to pay for a Gin Tasting. It’s a fairly well-off area in the Cotswolds and I think people pay £24 for a wine tasting.

I would never ever take my kids to that, swim booze and expect to look after my kids/take them home after. So I would never buy a ticket for that.

WhatIsThisTomfoolery · 21/09/2018 11:46

Doesn't food ruin the tasting?

Thought you'd need a clean pallete for proper 'tasting'

CormoranStrike · 21/09/2018 11:46

*swig

MsOliphant · 21/09/2018 11:48

You do not have food at a gin tasting.

MsOliphant · 21/09/2018 11:49

Or children.

WhatIsThisTomfoolery · 21/09/2018 11:50

So it's just a money making expensive and average meal out dressed up as a 'tasting'

Definitely child free where anything alchohol related is involved, people can arrange their own babysitters.

Agree that you don't need food.

I'd pay £20

MsOliphant · 21/09/2018 11:52

For context, I paid £30 to attend a tasting at the Sipsmith brewery.

Included: a g&t on arrival
A talk
A tour
3x tasters of gin (2 regular and sloe)
1x vodka taster
Gift box to take away containing 50ml sipsmith and shot measurer.

Was worth the money. I wouldn't pay more than that especially if it's not at an actual brewery.

Millipedewithherfeetup · 21/09/2018 11:53

Would not contemplate taking children to this sort of thing ...as pp has said you still have responsibility of getting them home/bathed/settled for bed etc. If it was a child free evening out then would spend perhaps around £30 ?

MsOliphant · 21/09/2018 11:54

Sorry, I mean DISTILLARY not brewery BlushGrin

Nanasueathome · 21/09/2018 11:55

The Cotswold Distillary (gin) charges £6 for a tour or £10 for a tour which includes gin tasting
They are fully booked for a while though
