How do you sell your car??

I've advertised my car on gumtree, autotrader & Facebook marketplace but had no interest. It's been on for 3 weeks now.
It's not over priced and good condition etc but I'm getting frustrated with no movement.

I'd rather not part exchange as mine is tight and need to upgrade to a bigger car as we have a baby on the way.

Any ideas??

Anyone?

If you aren't getting any interest then it is priced too high. Unless you know how quickly others priced the same are selling for then you can't say it isn't over priced.

Unless it's an unpopular car.

I put mine on facebook and sold it in less than a week.

You say it's not over priced, but is that your own opinion? Because if nobody's buying, that's the reason.

Overpriced. Obvious lies/bending of truth. (You can check any cars mot/tax/insurance status for free)

Large engined (2.5l petrol/4l diesel plus) vehicles now generally suffer on the second hand market

Diesel vehicles in a city location will also take a hit.

I’ve sold 3 cars via we buy any car as I couldn’t be bothered with all the hassle of private sale.

Stillmonday · 21/09/2018 15:44

@Biggreygoose No need to be rude. I don't lie thank you very much!

Not overpriced as several cars same spec & milage & condition much more than mine.

I've checked autotrader & Parker's for the price so price it accordingly.

Not sure where else to try.

It's only £5k but maybe people don't have the cash these days and prefer to buy from dealerships?

If you've had no calls then it's overpriced

MaxPepsi · 21/09/2018 15:52

I wouldn't privately buy a £5k car, I'd prefer to go through a dealer. So I could take it back if anything went wrong. Maybe that's what others think too?

What age and make is your car?

Biggreygoose · 21/09/2018 16:11

Those are the biggest two factors in people not buying 2nd hand cars.

You asked for ideas why it's not selling. It's a general statement, not a personal attack.

Fairly safe bet it's one, other or both. Without seeing the ad it's a little difficult to tell.

People frequently over estimate value of their car. Especially on millage and depreciation.

Stillmonday · 21/09/2018 16:17

@Biggreygoose Read my previous post. I haven't made it up!

@MaxPepsi That's what I thought, when I've had cheaper cars they've sold straight away so maybe it's just at that price where people feel safer buying from dealerships.

I agree, if I was looking at spending £5k on a car, I’d need to know the person I was buying it off, so I’d know it’s true history, or go through a dealer so I got some warranty if something went wrong a few months down the line.
in my experience wait until the last day of the month before going to a dealer and asking to part exchange, they may be desperate to sell in order to meet monthly targets, so may offer a better px value on yours.

Thanks for the tip @Whyiseveryonesoangry
I might have to resort to doing that.
