Ex-smokers - how to avoid smoking on a night out

I haven’t had a fag for nearly 5 weeks and am so far coping fine. I occasionally think about smoking during the day but always at times when I can’t smoke so there’s little need for willpower to overcome the urge to light up.
I’ve arranged to go out tonight and am already dreading how I’m going to avoid smoking. Anyone have any tips to stay strong and smoke-free?

What do you do when you get a craving? Just wait for it to pass?

I realised last night that to give in would mean going to a shop to buy a pack or ask a stranger for a cigarette - neither of which were an option for me right at that moment. Then the feeling passed and I didn’t think about it again.

I’ve just been out with non-smoking friends (third time in 8 days and I never go out!!) and didn’t think about smoking all evening. I do feel the real test will be going out with my usual smoking buddies.

I just have to find something to distract myself. If I’m out, go to the bar, or the loo. I find sometimes saying it out loud helps, because I’ll say ‘God, I REALLY want a fag’ and my friends talk me out of it.

I’ve been cig free for 18 months. There are times I would love one but I know it wouldn’t stop at one and I never want to be dependant on them again so I just don’t do it.

I either walk it off or eat chewing gum although I have had a few cigarettes too I don't see them as a huge failure I just start again

Well done OP. I'm two weeks off the fags. Haven't ventured out out yet though.
