What can someone with awful credit and no family do?

This is hopefully advice I can pass on. The person in question has awful credit and this is probably due to some undiagnosed MH problems. However, their job is well paid (around 50,000.)

She has relocated and wants to rent but I don’t think it crossed her mind that her credit might prevent her from doing so: does anyone know if there are any ways around this?

Getting a guarantor, offering to pay three or six months in advance, finding a private landlord and not using an agency.
These are the only options. The best is to save up and pay in advance.

Right ... neither of those things are options. Will the fact she owns property elsewhere stand in her favour or no?

I don’t understand where people are supposed to live!

No I don’t think owning property elsewhere will help. Can she not sell that, or is it just a case of timing and she needs somewhere in the meantime?

How many months rent can she pay upfront? That would presumably help a bit.

She may have more luck with a house share or as a lodger rather than trying to rent her own place. Then she could save up a large deposit or upfront rent payment.

Why is a private landlord not an option?

butterflysummer · 21/09/2018 06:58

How does one find a private landlord? It is a an option.

I suppose though I am thinking if someone has a child they can’t rent a room but if they have bad credit they can’t rent privately so what do you end up doijng?

Private landlords advertise everywhere. Facebook, Gumtree. This is a bit out of date but there are some links: www.mirror.co.uk/money/sick-letting-agent-fees-5-6190595
