Did anyone else hear this on Radio 4’s PM at around 5.45pm? Rob Delaney, actor, writer and comedian from Catastrophe, read a piece he’d written about his son Henry who had a brain tumour at the age of 1.

Listen here at around 42 mins 30 seconds:

Just bumping as this really is worth a listen- extremely emotional and powerful.

Agree - I heard this earlier. So very grateful for the health of my own children.

MemoriesOfAnotherFuture · 20/09/2018 21:40

Yes, absolutely. I have no idea how he was able to read it aloud.

I love Rob Delany in Catastrophe. I follow him on twitter and saw he had lost his beautiful son.

That's such a touching reading , he sounded quite detached at first (whatever else could you be trying to get through that reading in public) but I broke at the end when he did. So emotional

I heard this tonight, it was very emotional and heart breaking. I thought it was very brave of him to share his grief . I think it's an extract from a longer Radio 4 programme about grieving fathers

I have no idea how he managed to write the piece, never mind read it for radio. I’m just grateful that I was in my kitchen alone, not in the car crying, and have the health of my children.

That was beautiful. And so utterly sad. Thank you for sharing.

They've just played this on Radio 2. I'm weeping and holding my baby daughter very tightly. What a beautiful, terrible piece.

My two year old boy is sleeping, healthy and happy, on the sofa next to me and I'm silently weeping.

MemoriesOfAnotherFuture · 21/09/2018 16:20

It really does put things in perspective.

Rob Delaney is special.

I heard it on Radio 2 today and it made the work I was concerned about suddenly seem very insignificant. Utterly heartbreaking.

guiltynetter · 21/09/2018 18:11

i’ve not listened to the piece (my emotions can’t take it) but i’ve just read an article written by him about his son. what a heartbreaking, awful situation.

bestbefore · 22/09/2018 09:06

It has really stuck with me, we all moan - rightfully - about small things but really as long as you have the health of your children nothing is unfixable. Definitely puts things into perspective. Hope his other 2 boys are able to enjoy their childhood; that must be so hard.

Chosenone · 22/09/2018 09:09

There was so much in there that created sad Imagery. The sad and tired parents bumbling around the hospital ward and the bit where he had to hold his son down to receive his meds. It sounded utterly unbearable Sad

BartholinsSister · 22/09/2018 09:16

I listened in the car and saw the person next to me a the lights wiping their eyes.

willstarttomorrow · 22/09/2018 11:13

I heard it on radio 2 I think. I had just got in the car to drive somewhere for work and did not know who it was. It was so powerful, well written and sad yet sometimes beutiful at the same time.
