Dd is 8months old. When she was new born and the hv was advising on ff she said to hand wash bottles even if they'd been in the dishwasher first as the dishwasher wouldn't properly remove the milk residue.

So I've been mainly just handwashing or both all this time and then sterilizing but now starting to think this is bonkers, when have a perfectly good dishwasher which would save loads of time.

Tell me do you just dishwasher bottles then sterilize? I know this is trivial to even consider asking this but I was just wondering..... Thanks

By 8 months old I was just washing them I'm the sink iirc, then a smoosh of the hot water tap to remove any soap. DD was lacking the floor in playgroup by then, seemed superfluous to sterilise bottles Blush

Yes- dishwasher then steriliser from newborn. Would never have occurred to me that I needed to hand wash too as surely the steriliser kills any remaining bugs... That said I stopped sterilising from around 7 months and just did the hottest dishwasher cycle, seemed a bit redundant when DD was trying to shove anything and everything in her mouth anyway!!

I would wash them to get the milk out of any rims & stick them in the d/washer like you would your cup. The heat of the steam at the end of the cycle is hot enough to virtually sterilize them.

As Toby says if Babe is crawling everything is going in the mouth anyway so don't worry.

Another dishwasher user here. I just put them in the dishwasher, then sterilised, until about 7 months then I stopped sterilising

Thanks for the comments. I'll stop washing up by hand if not needed as takes ages and probably time to get rid of steriliser too

I don't sterilise religiously. I sterilise after every 3-4 uses of the bottle to give it a really good clean.

If a baby is healthy then it's good for them to be exposed to some bacteria. (Obviously a newborn would be a different case to an 8 month old)
