Hair in food. Refund?

Kittylette2 · 20/09/2018 17:25

DS has been asking to go to a certain food joint for ages.

Finally took him tonight and was a long black hair in his food. They brought him a new plate.

Just wondering if you ask for it to be taken off the bill or is the replacement sufficient?

Well if someone ate the replacement, that would be the end of it I'd imagine.

yorkiemummy · 20/09/2018 17:29

This happened to me once I got new food and a refund but they still got a bad review on trip advisor it shouldn't happen

ApolloandDaphne · 20/09/2018 17:32

I think i would be happy with being given a new plate of food and pay for it.

SpottingTheZebras · 20/09/2018 17:32

I think in the majority of the kind of food joints kids want to go to, it’s a bit grim and a replacement is a good apology. Expecting to have a replacement and the money taken off the bill is unreasonable.

adaline · 20/09/2018 17:33

I'd probably expect a new plate of food and a refund.

Kittylette2 · 20/09/2018 17:33

But you being given a clean plate of food is what you paid for.

If they replace it you are only getting what you asked for in the first place.

Where's the hospitality and compensation for having a big hair in your food?

hobblesma · 20/09/2018 17:34

Why do you need compensation Confused

Nissemand · 20/09/2018 17:36

Well...you get what you paid for.

What good would compensation do? Would it make you more likely to go back, in anticipation of hairy food?

They shouldn't have bothered with the refund, should they

WhatIsThisTomfoolery · 20/09/2018 17:36

Compensation?? JeezHmm

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 20/09/2018 17:36

But you got “what you asked for in the first place”. Eventually...
If you’d wanted a refund instead you shouldn’t have let him scoff the replacement food.
Don’t be grabby.

WingsofNylon · 20/09/2018 17:38

Normally they ask, would you like a replacement or a refund? Both is a bit much.

adaline · 20/09/2018 17:41

A lot of places would say "have a free dessert" or something similar as well.

showmeahero · 20/09/2018 17:50

Your dish will likely be removed from the Bill at the Managers discretion. Although you received a replacement Meal there would have been a few extra minutes wait for the new dish, leaving one of you to eat alone. This warrants some compensation...

hobblesma · 20/09/2018 17:53

I hardly think eating meals at very slightly different times constitutes loss, suffering or injury Hmm

Prometheus · 20/09/2018 18:40

When this happens to me I just pull the hair out and continue eating. It’s hardly going to kill you.

Rebecca36 · 20/09/2018 18:53

They gave him a new plate so no need for refund.

UrsulaPandress · 20/09/2018 18:55

If I found a hair in my food I wouldn't ask for a replacement nor eat there again.

1vandal2 · 20/09/2018 18:56

It is just a hair. You cannot catch any kind of disease from a hair. I just pull them out and carry on. It is impossible to keep any environment hair free.

Replacing the whole plate of food was more than generous and wanting anything else is grabby and entitled.

Kittylette2 · 20/09/2018 18:58

Well I got a refund of the full meal (his, not mine) so they obviously thought it was an acceptable request.

Noodge · 20/09/2018 19:00

Meh. I'd probably tell them so they could perhaps take measures to be more careful, but I'd just remove the hair and eat it. It's hardly a massive issue. Was it a well reputed restaurant, or Nandos? I do think it makes a difference. Fast food and low paid people and pressure can mean things like this can happen and It's just one of those things.

viques · 20/09/2018 19:11

I haven't been to Valerie Patesserie for many years, and won't ever be going back, not since I found a hair in the actual middle of my gateau and the snarky bastard manager had the cheek to suggest it was mine! I paid for my coffee but not the cake, but he was really nasty about the whole thing, I wish I hadn't been so very English and discreet.

Anyway, ner to you VP, that rude man has cost you massively over the years, thousands, possibly millions, of pounds. Well ok, not quite, but a fair amount . Taking your trade elsewhere is the best revenge I find.

viques · 20/09/2018 19:13

And I can see now I spelled patisserie wrong. The curse still follows me!
