Is being called back to the doctors the next day a bad sign?

My mum has been for a scan on her ovaries this afternoon. We came out of the hospital less than a hour ago and they have just called her asking her to come in first thing tomorrow (to see her gp). Is this a bad sign? Would they call her so quick if everything was fine? I am in tears and terrified :(

Ok try not to panic. This happened to me several times.at hospital appointments. Sometimes as simple as me needing B12 jabs or Vit D but urgently as it's been very low.

The one time it was bad I was called back to the hospital not the GP because they found large ovarian cysts and because of the size they wanted them dealt with urgently. No cancer or anything awful they just didn't want to risk them bursting.

But no matter what it is it means she will be getting treatment quickly and that's a good thing!

Don't panic because you don't know. I was called back for anaemia.

If it is bad news I'm so sorry but it might not be!

I’ve been in s similar situation and the hospital contacted us directly. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious, but if something has been picked up on the scan it’s good because she is being seen quickly.

In our case something was seen and it was terrifying but I tried to be positive - If something sinister has been seen on your DM’s scan, that something was also there yesterday too, but nobody knew about it and it wasn’t being treated; I know it’s hard to believe it but you really are in a better position than yesterday because something is being done! x

I had this after a CT scan, I'd practically got the funeral booked, I'd a massive blood clot in my thigh, that was almost a relief. Hope all goes well x

I work in a surgery if we call for you to come the next day the doctor has requested it as urgent. We obviousky have no idea of what tbe result is but have to ring the patients to say the doctor wants them to come in Obviously this is very scary for the patients. I would try your best not to panic or think worse case scenario. Fingers crossed for you both

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. I’m still in tears and feel sick. I need to get w grip now as I have a leaving do starting at 7 which I can’t miss. I suppose it could be anything and we aren’t going to know until tomorrow, just praying it’s somethiby like a cyst!

In our trust if we see something sinister on an ultrasound we would refer for a CT scan , so the patient would hear directly from the hospital and not the GP . Hope it's ok and nothing serious Op.

Don’t panic. I had exactly this for ‘a suspicious lump’. Mine was benign. They probably are going to fast track her to find out what something is and need to let her know so she’s not shocked etc. It happens for a whole range of things from cysts to the c word with a ton of benign stuff inbetween so don’t worry it may be nothing serious still.

Rememberallball · 21/09/2018 08:53

I would say that, if it were to be bad news, they usually call you back to see a consultant at the hospital and not get a GP to see you as you would need to discuss the process going forward and that would be led by a hospital team.

It may be that they want your DM to have some other tests or want her referred to another department because of something seen on the scan - my DM was being seen by one department at the hospital and they wanted her to see another department however they couldn’t refer her so asked her GP to do it and, as a courtesy, the GP called her in to discuss the referral and ensure she understood why she was being referred.
