Two wheel or four wheels on cabin baggage?

I need a new wheelie bag suitable for cabin use. I've only ever had one wheelie bag, a fabulous Samsonite that is finally dying after about 20 years.

I've never had a four wheeled bag, should I stick with two, or embrace this radical new trend?

4 is much easier, means you can just walk them along beside you instead of pulling them behind.

Easier to twist and turn through small spaces or crowds.

  1. I had no idea what a difference it made until we had to negotiate three cases through a looooong airport this summer. You can wheel them alongside you with minimal effort, rather than dragging them.

Yes 4 wheels for the reasons above. I was dragging a small case behind me last week (which was really making my arm hurt) before I realised it had 4 wheels and not 2. It was sooooo much easier to wheel it alongside me rather than pull it along.

Four!

I can move it around so easily and tow or push or walk next to.

Happy shopping!

4 - I have just switched our trusty Samsonite for a 4 wheeled version....

Unanimous so far!

The only problem with 4 is that you get less packing space. Apart from that, they are fab. Oh but if you want to sling another bag on the handle, think about balance, they are slightly more tippy, but its marginal

tinkiiev · 20/09/2018 12:55

4! I've just got one too. Love it. Also love other people having them; so much less tripping over other people's bags /ankle bashing going on these days.

Depends how you travel. I went back to 2 as I often travel by other transport as well as plane and the 4-wheeled ones have a life of their own, rolling away when 'parked' on the Tube / bus / train etc unless you hang on for dear life. Also, if you have to cover any distance outside (from station / bus stop to hotel for example) I found the larger wheels on the 2 wheeled models cope much better on uneven tarmac.
If you will only use for wheeling around the airport, then 4 wheels would be better.

I have one of the ultra light models from IT - they have ones now that have a harder shell. I’ve had mine about 5 years and it’s still doing well, even when it’s been put in the hold. I have the maximum cabin size and I’ve been on a 10 day holiday with just hand luggage.

Definitely 4. You can still use it like a 2 wheeled one if you prefer but it's so much better than 2!

TerfsUp · 20/09/2018 13:12

Four. Much easier to manage.

Stephisaur · 20/09/2018 13:19

4

I haven't noticed any reduction in space on my samsonite (it's one of the hard shell ones) and it is SO easy to push around the airport/train station/wherever.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 20/09/2018 13:37

That's interesting, schooltripwoes. I do have to use public transport when I'm not on the plane, hadn't thought of the rolling away issue.
