Question about favourite/least favourite Jilly Cooper books! *NO SPOILERS AFTER POLO PLEASE*

Once again - NO SPOILERS AFTER POLO PLEASE! Grin

I've just finished Riders, Rivals and Polo (still getting over the awfulness of Perdita). Loved them but I've heard mixed reviews about some of the rest. Is The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous worth reading?
Which did you wish you hadn't read??

Thank you!!

For me they go downhill from Score onwards because there's less of the characters you love.

But they're obviously still awesome!

I think it's the writing. Riders has some lovely descriptions: of countryside, of events, and of the characters' personalities and/or emotions This gets less and less as the books go on.

@BalloonSlayer
Thanks

Now intrigued about Rupert!

is it the writing or is it the direction the characters take??

A bit of both, I would say. The dated puns seem more and more out of place and the characters and plot points move further and further away from reality. What really got to me was what she's done to Rupert and Taggie (I won't say anymore but read them in publication order) - I'm far too invested in her characters!

I love her early romance ones, such as Prudence, Harriet, Imogen etc.

I adore Riders, Rivals, Polo and TMWMHJ but after that I think they went downhill. JC writing became almost too verbose, the lovely descriptive writing became too wordy and there were millions of characters with convoluted links and complicated situations.

Score and Appassionata were OK (Rannaldini was deliciously evil!) but I didn’t enjoy Wicked at all and didn’t finish Jump (still on my bookcase I think). I didn’t even read Mount which was a shame as I avidly bought all her new books as they came out.

I love Rivals. I re read Riders recently after mY years, and was absolutely gobsmacked at the utter awfulness of Rupert, remembering how much people loved him when the book first came out.....
