Please help with a descriptive word...

What word do you use to describe somebody who is charitable in the sense they look after a group poor/disadvantaged children BUT are not actually registered as a charity or organisation. They just work on their own perhaps with the help of neighbours or other volunteers.

I'm mid writing a grant making policy and need to include such persons and the right words have just escaped me.

AdaColeman · 19/09/2018 14:46

Impromptu?

MadamesNet · 19/09/2018 14:48

Gosh that was quick. I'll try it with benevolent or altruistic and see if it fits.

'We would also consider supporting benevolent individuals who can show evidence of current work with disadvantaged children...'' but due to constraints are unregistered...'such like

I'd leave out benrvolent tbh.

StealthPolarBear · 19/09/2018 14:50

Why not volunteers in the community, or individuals in the community? Or does that not work?

MadamesNet · 19/09/2018 14:51

I've gone with 'altruistic', as the best fit. Thank you very much O great Mners!

Woohoo, what do I win?!

Stealth - Because of the nature of the charity in that in works mainly with volunteers anyway, we need to differentiate from an ordinary volunteer supporting a project and an individual to whom we might give a grant to who will also be a volunteer if you see what i mean.
