If you have a cleaner...

does she/he do your dishes if there are any in the sink?
Our new cleaner started today (we moved out of area for our old one) and she has just stacked them on the side and cleaned around them. I was initially a bit Hmm as our old cleaner always did them but beginning to wonder if we were just a bit spoiled?

She didn't do a lot of things on the list so I can't decide if she is slow or I'm being picky

Forgot to add, there was only a few breakfast dishes and we have a dishwasher

Yes, always. Sometimes I have to ask her to leave them as we have a dishwasher and I don't mind doing that!

FunkyHeroCat · 18/09/2018 20:36

Yes, that's part of the job! Very unusual for a cleaner not to put a few dishes in the dishwasher.

pinkcardi · 18/09/2018 20:37

Ours puts the majority in the dishwasher and quickly washes anything that can't be dishwashed by hand.

SaffyLoo · 18/09/2018 20:38

Yes!!!
I try and make sure there arnt any there so she doesn't need to take that extra few minutes to do them but if I leave a breakfast bowl or cup in the sink she will clean.

She also will put away anything I had left on draining board

I'd say tell her clearly what you want/expect...maybe in a text so its written and refer back to that if your standards arnt met

Haireverywhere · 18/09/2018 20:41

Ours came with a checklist and we had to say yes/no to all the jobs

WatchOutForTheCar · 18/09/2018 20:41

Hmmm... right, I'll try writing a more specific list for next week and if it doesn't improve then I'll go back to the agency. Thanks all Smile

That's because they only come fortnightly and can't do everything in that time

JontyDoggle37 · 18/09/2018 20:47

Our cleaner is the reason I’m still sane....dishwasher emptied and put away, everything else washed up and put away, clothes from the drier sorted and put into bedrooms, bedding changed (and washed) and duvet covers ironed before they go on, plus two bathrooms, kitchen, 4 bedrooms and two sets of stairs cleaned. She is my fairy godmother in mortal form...

theconstantinoplegardener · 18/09/2018 21:11

Cleaners tend to be a bit slow the first couple of weeks while they are getting used to a new house, IME. She'll probably be much more efficient/ get more done in the allocated time, after a month or so.

Justabouthadituptohere · 18/09/2018 21:13

I expect a lot of my cleaner in the couple of hours she is here - so generally have things clear so she can clean.

Floaty2018 · 18/09/2018 21:17

I don't ever leave dirty dishes around before the cleaner comes. If I make sure everything is AWAY, she can do what she's being paid to do- which is thoroughly clean the sink!

Its the same way I wouldn't leave my dirty clothes in a pile on the floor when I know she needs to hoover said floor....

Anoisagusaris · 18/09/2018 21:22

Mine does. It’s only if the dishwasher was on overnight and I haven’t unloaded it.

She also puts towels or bedclothes on to wash (kept in separate laundry basket), hangs them out puts in tumble drier, folds them etc as needed.

She and I see her as making my life easier rather than just cleaning the house.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/09/2018 21:23

My old cleaner didn't do them. My. Ew one does. I've told her I don't expect her to do them. She also was very good at cleaning up cat sick. Which I totally didn't think she should do!

PaddysMarket · 18/09/2018 21:30

Cleaner here, for me it depends on the house/time. I have 2 houses I go to where they only want the kitchen floors washed, it felt strange leaving the dishes at 1st but one house prefers my priority to be her bathrooms and ironing. The other house I don't have time to unload her dishwasher and put the dirty dishes in and there isn't any point in me washing by hand since she uses the dishwasher.

abbsisspartacus · 18/09/2018 21:38

Depends on the house the house I was in today specified no washing up did you not give a list of jobs to complete?

Elphame · 18/09/2018 21:38

Mine will put dirty dishes in the dishwasher but I really wish she wouldn't as she has no idea how dishwashers work - wine glasses are laid on their sides and the bread knife is invariably put vertically in the cutlery bin...

theunsure · 18/09/2018 21:40

Yes mine does.
She offers to empty dishwasher to but I ask her to leave that, as I am particular about where things go.

SequinsOnEverything · 18/09/2018 21:44

My old cleaner never did. I expect she'd have been annoyed I'd left then there tbh.

jonty your cleaner sounds amazing!

mineofuselessinformation · 18/09/2018 21:46

Do you own a dishwasher?
My philosophy in the days when I could afford a cleaner was that I didn't want to pay them to tidy my house, just clean it - yours might be different.
You need to have a chat with the cleaner about what is and isn't included in their role.

affectionincoldclimate · 18/09/2018 21:47

I'd never leave dishes for her.
If on couple of occasions I've left a cup or a glass behind, she'd wash up but I'd never expect her to do the dishes.
She's here to dust, clean surfaces, do the bathroom, clean the floors and hoover, change bedding - doing dishes would for me be waste of her time.

Believeitornot · 18/09/2018 21:48

Only the good ones - but I don’t leave washing up unless I forgot to do it.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 18/09/2018 21:48

Yes our cleaner does the dishes. It tends to be a few bits of glassware and the chopping boards that don't go in the dishwasher as I try and leave it clear so she can concentrate on rest of house.

She will also peg out washing if asked, which I find handy (I leave a note)

serbska · 18/09/2018 22:20

Yes.

I only leave stuff out if the DW was full and didn’t fit all the breakfast things in though so it wouldn’t be much.

I’d rather she left them TBH as they could just go in the DW later but she will unpack the DW and wash up the cup/bowl!

paxillin · 18/09/2018 22:26

Yes, she does. She will also put a load of washing on the line if it is finished. Basically does whatever is needed.
