Wasn’t sure where to post. Taking DD on first holiday and wondered if anyone can recommend any musts for swimming in regards to aids or I have seen wet suit type to keep warm?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions

You can get baby wetsuits or neoprene nappies. Where are you going will it be warm? If she has food head control you could get a baby swim seat otherwise just hold her. It doesn't take long for them to get cold.

Mummy0718 · 18/09/2018 17:17

I think it’ll be around 26 degrees. She does have good head control, I was wondering about the seats as seem to be for older. Wondered if was any hidden gems I hadn’t seen but as you say doesn’t take long to get cold so will prob just be in and out and in my arms mainly. Thank you

Hey, we went on our honeymoon to Jamaica mid August last year when our DD was one and a half and I worried like mad! I over took everything- we had Nivea factor 50+ and bepanthan baby suncream! Worked a treat! She had swim nappies, and had a couple of costumes that covered shoulders and knees!
Kept on changing her when she got out the pool and letting the wet one dry to swap!
She had a swim hat which covered her neck and we took a float jacket, a rubber ring with the leg holes In so couldn't fall out (get some with shades now) and some arm bands but didn't use them much. I also took a small swimming pool to fill up to put near sun loungers so she could paddle in the shade due to heat! She loved it. Hope this helps!
I also took things to play in the water too! She had a zogg peppa and George to play in the pool with, a bucket and spade ect!! Keeps them entertained! Hope this helps! Are you sorted for the plane? X

Oh and I forgot- this was a god send! The towel ponchos.. I took 2 and she loved them! Put fresh nappy on her, and dry towel poncho and she fell asleep on her pram and lounger! Smile

Great thank you! Putting ALL of this on my list! Always best to hear from ppl who have done it all and know what works! My ds is 7 now and it’s been so long since having a little one id no doubt forget something and kick myself! Not sure if I’m sorted for plane? I actually didn’t travel with ds till he was nearly 2 so any advice for a baby is more than welcome ! Xx

Well all I can tell you is what I did whether it will be any help...
So I got a baby bag! And bought DD a present for every hour of the plane journey, I wrapped it up like a present so she could pick one every hour to keep her entertained!
I took her dummy on a string! The amount of times I have lost dummies on planes is unbelievable... strings that clip on clothes are great! If they have dummies! I took a bottle of water and milk as the hostess will warm it up for you! And some snacks! Some people may frown also but I bought some baby head phones and some sugar free lollies and put nursery rhymes on, on the way down! Anything and everything that will entertain your children take! What the airline doesn't tell you is that each child is aloud a bag of either nappies and toys and a pillow! My DD had a nappy bag a bag for her toys and a pillow! And they were totally fine with it! We also rang up and booked an extra seat at last minute so DD could sit and play...it was £35 each way and gives you extra room if that's a possibility.. trying to think of things!
Hope that helps also! If I can think of anything else I'll let you know Smile

They're so young, You should be with them at all times and never take your eyes off them. When they're in the water. There's no reason for a flotation device. There may be a tendancy to "rely" on the flotation device, rather than holn them in the water iyswim?

Whatever you do, do NOT get or use a rubber ring with the holes in. They're really fucking dangerous.

inquiquotiokixul · 18/09/2018 18:22

What @00100001 said - floatation devices for a baby that tiny are dangerous. hold onto your baby. No floating.

If there is time before your holiday then going to a few puddleducks or waterbabies baby swim sessions to learn a bit of water-confidence before the holiday?

Will your baby be fully up to date with vaccines for the holiday? All sort of bugs are going to be rife in a the damp steamy atmosphere around and in the changing areas of a warm swimming pool so that would be important for me.

missyB1 · 18/09/2018 18:27

Please don’t use any kind of flotation device, just hold your baby - much much safer! And those awful seats with leg holes should be banned in my opinion.

MimiSunshine · 18/09/2018 18:34

I wouldn’t go near a floatation device, firstly there is a danger they could flip but also they keep your baby out of the water.
This will make them feel cold, to ensure even body temperature her shoulders need to be under water.

In reality a 10 weeknold wont want to be in the water for more than 30 mins at time and will feel much more reassured by being held.

Don’t take disposable nappies just buy one reusable bambino mio (online or Asda do them) to go under a neoprene swim suit.
They can be washed or just rinsed out and dry as quick as a towel.

We’ve never had a single poop online so they’re not gross to use

Mummy0718 · 18/09/2018 18:51

Thank you, looks like I’ll just hold her. I’d never rely on any float just meant something extra that I could hold in case there was anything anyone could recommend but listening to everyone I’ve decided against the ones with the holes in. Looking at them I thought they are for much older so that’s why I thought I’d ask. Would only be in pool for very little amounts of time anyway! Any advice on best sunscreen?

A pp suggestion of a tiny paddling pool is a good one. We got one from The Works for £3 a d took it to the beach. It was tiny but big enough to sit and splash in.

Suncream, factor 30 is enough, anything higher is really thick and can block their pores and cause a rash or irritate eczema just make sure it’s 5* UVA as well.
Be warned some of the big brands like Nivea aren’t, those that are have it loud and proud on the front (wilko’s is a good one and cheap)
