Maggots in bin help don't read if eating!

So my general waste bin was taken today and yesterday it was so full I had to put one bag in the big recycling bin (as big as the normal dustbin) to be transferred over today. Just went to transfer it over and there are hundreds of maggots on the bin bag and so all through the recycling. Absolutely disgusting. I've dealt with maggots in the main dustbin before but this is worse cos there's all the recycling in there too. I only put the bag in there overnight. So gross. I now feel sick. What can I do? When they have been in the other one I've waited until it's empty and cleaned the bin out. Not nice but I've done it. This time I don't know what to do cos it's all mixed up. I'm not moving the bag into the correct bin as firstly it's disgusting but also then I will be transferring the problem if that makes sense. And there's recycling I'm there too but it's all mixed up. I've chucked loads of bleach in the recycling bin. Help! And sorry if you are eating. We are very clean people but live near a cow field so get lots of flies.

escape if a fly manages to get into your bin (one might fly in whilst you’re putting in rubbish and not be noticed by you), that is enough to cause maggots.

I can't pour boiling water on it. The bin is full. I can't empty the bin cos it's full of recycling. If i pour boiling water on it I will end up with maggot soup.

Do you dont have to separate food and general waste?

Namechangeforhair · 18/09/2018 17:03

What do you mean escape to the moon?

You are going to have to sort this.

First pour lots of boiling water into the contaminated bin, have something over your nose as boiled maggots smell vile. Leave for a while.

Get your emptied bin and give it a bit of a clean or just make sure no maggotts in it.

Then you will have to take stuff out of the recyclign bin one by one and have a kettle of water to mop up any remaining maggots and put in the other bin until you have dealt with it all

I can't see your council sorting something that you caused. Ask on Facebook for bin cleaning companies or get your gloves on and get it cleaned.

We have a bin for all food waste. A kitchen caddy with biodegradable bags, then yiu put those bags into another airtight bin which is collected every week. General waste holds no food waste so no maggots.

Namechangeforhair · 18/09/2018 17:31

We have a good caddy but not allowed to use bags so not every bit of food waste goes in there as too sloppy.

We had them in ours - salt round the edge of the bin and boiling water tipped round the top. When it was emptied I gave it a good clean - couldn’t do anything else till then.

They’re gross but they’re not harmful - and easily gone once bin is empty if you can just do damage control in the meantime

Namechangeforhair · 18/09/2018 18:02

We have a food caddy but not allowed to use bags so the food goes straight in. So pretty much all food goes in there except for food scrapped off plates for examples as it would make too much mess. Wish we could use bags.

Sorry repeated myself slightly as earlier one posted too soon.

I had this all summer and woke up to an army of blue bottles on our back wall one day!!! Literally hundreds it was revolting.

It's hard work but I now keep all foot waste in a carrier bag in the freezer until bin collection day. I also make sure to fully rinse out any packaging which I throw away. DH thinks I'm nuts but it has seemed to have worked

Namechangeforhair · 18/09/2018 18:05

Fruityb I think that's what I will be doing. I can't empty it there are probably 200 items in there.

Beefcake oh gross. I've just moved the bin so it's far far away from the house.

I put in a waste disposal as I couldn’t stand the maggots. Extreme I know!

Namechangeforhair · 18/09/2018 19:10

I've moved. Poured salt around the edges. Got the few buggers that were crawling out. Going to phone a bin cleaning company tomorrow and hope they can come quickly. Don't care how much they charge me!
