Cheekiest of CF parking

Our school has a courtesy agreement with local residents, and parents mostly adhere to a parking exclusion zone.

But nearby roads ARE public highways, so some people still park as close as possible. They're entitled to do so, and everyone parks respectfully - there really isn't any silly parking over drives or on corners etc.

Not good enough for one resident, who has this week escalated from shouting over his fence to painting his own parking space. Right outside his house. It's absolute massive, too - bigger than the disabled bay a few yards up the hill.

Definitely not a formal parking space, just a bloke and a tin of paint.

There have been some indignant emails to the council today, apparently

So just keep parking on it then? You can't just claim bits of road as your own.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/09/2018 14:26

why does he want such a massive space? Just park there, feel free to shout back that he should choose a house either with a driveway next time

SistersOfPercy · 18/09/2018 14:30

I believe thats technically criminal damage as he has defaced the road. Go on to 'Fix My Street' and report it as vandalism.

HeyMicky · 18/09/2018 14:33

All three of these things have already happened this morning

The brass neck of some people. Who the hell paints the road?

I would put a tin of paint in the car and a paintbrush and if he said anything to me i would say its ok for you to park where you want as you have the paint to paint your own lines. lol

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 18/09/2018 15:06

Did you see him do it? Because that’s what our highstreet looked like that when they marked the bays out provisionally before the painters came along.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/09/2018 15:20

Who the hell paints the road? someone with way too much time on their hands...

SpikyCactus · 18/09/2018 15:26

If people didn’t park like CFs he wouldn’t have felt the need to do this. He needs to complain to the council and ask for permit only parking restrictions.

Isn't that criminal damage ? Especially if the council have to clean it off ...."

trulybadlydeeply · 18/09/2018 15:30

I live opposite a school, so fully appreciate the issue, although we get a lot of CF parking on corners etc.

In an ideal world I would get some yellow paint and put some double yellow lines outside his house while he is out. In fact every time he is out you could add something different, maybe a bus stop next time Grin

HeyMicky · 18/09/2018 15:31

But Spiky no one is parking like CFs. He bought a house by an existing school. People do park considerately - no one parks wide of the kerb or on the pavement, runs their engine, parks on yellow lines or over driveways. The school runs a walking us as well to reduce congestion.

And it's definitely not council - it's a bit wonky; it's not been abutted to the other delineated space; it's just one, not several; it's enormous, much bigger than a standard space

I saw on the news that some people got fed up with their drug dealing neighbours so painted 'drug dealers ' on a parking space. So, in the dark of the night someone could write 'twat' next to the space.

Dorkdiary · 18/09/2018 15:41

I live near a school and I don't believe for a second that 'most' parents adhere to the parking rules.

It's a bloody nightmare here. They even park on our off road parking and private and signed carparks and tell us to fuck off or give us abuse if they are challenged.
One bloke told me to my face he didn't know it was residents only but still parks there. It's a nightmare.

It's the same at all the schools in our village according to the local FB page.

Dorkdiary · 18/09/2018 15:42

That said he can't be drawing his own space on the road.

StormTreader · 18/09/2018 16:06

Paint new space dividers in the middle, so theres now 3 teeny tiny spaces....

StormTreader · 18/09/2018 16:07

(note: do not really do this, no painting your own spaces in!) Grin

formerbabe · 18/09/2018 16:09

I know someone who moves their wheelie bins into the road outside their house so no one will park there. I just get out my car, move them back onto the pavement and park there. Cheeky bastards!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/09/2018 16:16

Part of me thinks fair play to him. That's the part of me that can't leave my house between 8 and 9 and 230 and 330. There's easier ways though. We have massive problems due to living next to a school in a cul de sac. We just put our cars on the road now instead of on the drives. Much less stressful knowing you won't risk being late for work unless you leave an hour early.

This is the story about the drug dealers !

6demandingchildren · 18/09/2018 16:41

omg the reporter on that BBC article needs to get his maps out.
"Columbia Road Cartel"
Im sure he means Colombia as they are totally different places.

Madwithjealousy · 18/09/2018 17:01

I only know Columbia Road !

DanglyBangly · 18/09/2018 17:20

Does he have a driveway?

SpikyCactus · 18/09/2018 17:49

I greatly doubt that people are parking considerately. If they were then the resident wouldn’t have felt the need to paint his own space.

HeyMicky · 18/09/2018 18:10

I have great sympathy generally as I live on a village green and can't move for cars on weekends, including people deliberately blocking our lane, which does have formal parking restrictions.

But he's objecting to cars parking on a public highway.

He shouts at people parked legally, in a non-obstructive manner, outside his house. "You can't park there. You don't live in this road". Erm, no residents parking, mate. No driveway to block in, he just wants a permanent spot directly outside his house.

Bonkers. And now a vandal.

OP posts:
Dessertisyummy · 18/09/2018 19:08

If he was going to paint his own space then surely he would have marked the whole thing out clearly. That looks as though it has been marked up ready for a full on disabled parking space to be created. Are you sure he is just an angry CF?
