Checked with my GP because I got my smear test reminder through. They were meant to send a reminder on expiry, but they don't do fitting any more so maybe that's why no prompt.

Feck. After frantic googling looks like they licensed in Europe for seven years anyway, and it's only three months over that so hopefully ok?

And I'm 42, and haven't had any periods at all so would that suggest hormones still working?

On down side, I've always been really fertile.

Aaaargh.

I feel like such an idiot, but honestly it's been so good for me I literally never think about it.

Stop having sex! And call your local sexual health clinic to find out where they can fit one. I had this earlier this year and had to go up to the hospital to have it done because my GP didn’t offer it.

I would be on the safe side and double up until you can get it replaced.

I was the same a couple of years ago, I’m a bit older than you though, so was probably late 40s at the time.
My GP said it would be fine, wouldn’t cause any problems, but it wouldn’t be as effective.
I got it changed and all was well.

Mine would be having its 10th anniversary in April. I've a hysteroscopy booked next month to get it out and swap for a replacement (long lost strings)
It's still working but my gynae said I shouldn't rely on it now (however I got pregnant after approx 2 seconds when not on contraception so I'm happy it is clearly still working though not guaranteed!)

There are lots of studies that point to their efficacy being closer to 7 years and possibly even 10, particularly if it’s inserted above the age of 25. So chances are you’re fine!

Thank you all, and believe me I will be doubling up till it's replaced!

Also going to do a Pg test just to be sure.

I feel so stupid to have forgotten something so important. Sad

it surely just defaults to being effective in a normal type coil manner if the hormone element has run out?

Mine was in for yonks...fitted after the youngest and had it replaced last year...youngest is now driving.

I have a new one that is destined to last for 4 years or maybe five since I am HRT-ing with it.
