Where's our Indian summer gone?

So, who's missing the nice weather and daylight now the weather has well and truly broken and it's so much darker earlier? Just a few weeks ago we were cooking on a camp site at half 8 and now it's dark at that time. The heating is on some of the time, the constant damp drizzle is back and DS2 is coughing like a drain. So depressing and dull watching the summer slip away. Autumn can go and do one as far as I'm concerned. Where's the Indian summer we were promised?

Ah I was thinking the same! Hate autumn and winter and wish we could have held on to the hot weather and long days much longer! Hmm

rainbowsandsmiles · 18/09/2018 01:02

It's dark early in an evening now but the weather was lovely and warm earlier today (Yorkshire.)

MistressDeeCee · 18/09/2018 01:40

It was 25 degrees in London today. Definitely not autumn/coat weather

ALongHardWinter · 18/09/2018 02:30

I don't know what part of the country you are in OP,but the Indian summer has been alive and well here in west London for the last week, with temperatures of between 19 and 25 degrees.

voxnihili · 18/09/2018 02:39

I got sunburned yesterday while walking into town. There were other people out in bobble hats ...

nopeni · 18/09/2018 06:18

I'd cheerfully ban any hot weather again ever. That's the depressing stuff, not autumn.

megletthesecond · 18/09/2018 06:20

I keep thinking the heatwave is going to come back. I'm in denial about winter creeping up on us.

Sitranced · 18/09/2018 07:15

It's be a bit blowy with the pass of the end of a hurricane for a few days then it's going to be nice and sunny again for a week or so.

Rockbird · 18/09/2018 07:18

And here's me pissed off because it's been so warm lately. My car read 27° yesterday. I want cardis and boots. I'm still in flip flops ffs.

CherryPavlova · 18/09/2018 07:19

Lying here on our boat at the moment whilst husband finds a boulangerie. It’s already 24 degrees. I look like a lobster. It was 29 degrees yesterday. Same expected today.
Indian summer has voted remain and is currently in Alsace Lorraine.

LaPufalina · 18/09/2018 07:24

I wore a jumper to the park in Manchester yesterday and was sweltering!

PepperSteaks · 18/09/2018 07:25

I hate this time of year when you dress for autumn in the morning and by lunchtime you are boiling!

inappropriateraspberry · 18/09/2018 07:26

According to one of the BBC weathermen, it's still officially summer until around the 21st Sept and an Indian summer is in October/November! So you never know, there's still hope 🤞🏻

Singlenotsingle · 18/09/2018 07:27

Yesterday was glorious hot sunshine, but hurricane Helen's arrived today. The temperature's still supposed to be warm though

Rockbird · 18/09/2018 10:51

PepperSteaks me too. I've learnt my lesson now and I do the school run in a vest top and flip flops. Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy as they huddle inside their scarves but I know best tee hee! Grin

ForalltheSaints · 18/09/2018 11:32

Indian summers apparently do not start before the Equinox.

Meet0nTheIedge · 18/09/2018 11:46

Full on Indian Summer here, it was 24C here yesterday and full sunshine, I'd like autumn to hurry along a bit now, I'm getting very tired of the heat.

Theworldisfullofgs · 18/09/2018 11:47

27 degrees here yesterday. I want rain.
Warm and windy today.

DrCoconut · 18/09/2018 19:31

We're in north Lincs and while we've had some sun yesterday and today the weather is definitely autumn. We've needed jeans and jackets today. And it's dark so much earlier. Cold and damp and dark make us ill and miserable. I'm interested in a connection between ADHD/autism and level of sunlight because DS2 is always so much better in summer. He's coughing again now too (has asthma) and I'm just wishing the lovely summer we had could last a bit longer. No amount of hygge can make up for the crapness of autumn and winter for me.

Vile weather today. Torrential rain and wind. Had to strip DS2 off after school as he was soaked from the journey home. Heating on, dryer on to keep up with laundry, after tea trip to the park cancelled. How anyone can prefer this to a beautiful warm day with line dried washing and open windows is utterly beyond me.

It was such a long cold winter those hot sunny months of May, June and July were so welcome. It's grim in the North West tonight, dark, wet and windy. Still not got the heating on though.
