Braiding caucasian hair in Afro styles

My DD is almost 10, she has fine blonde curly hair which is past her shoulders, and has asked to have it braided after seeing friends come back from holidays with braids. The sort where you have corn rows over the top of your head, that end in loose braids (don’t know technical terms!).

We live in a rural area but I could take her to our nearest big town and get a recommendation for an Afro-hair salon, but are people likely to be offended and upset at perceived cultural appropriation?

DD has no idea that the hairstyle is anything other than an exciting complex style she’s noticed. I could probably try and do something similar myself but I think we’d both give up after the third time I pulled her hair slightly... and it wouldn’t be as good or fun as going to a hair salon.

Advice or thoughts welcome...

Well, it is cultural appropriation - your DD is white and girls with Afro hair still get negative messages about their hair in its natural state or indeed braided. That said, your DD is only a little girl and I am quite sure most people would understand that she wouldn’t understand that. Mind you, it hurts to have done and does she realise that it stays in and needs redoing etc?
