Beside myself with worry

I tried to stay away from Google but stupidly gave in and now I'm beside myself and freaking out.
My 2yo DS has swollen lymph nodes constantly he has had it since last October. Mentioned it to the docs numerous times. He had a blood test back in May and all was fine. I mentioned last week to the doctor again about his neck and he seemed concerned and said they shouldn't still be up. So he has sent for another blood test and if that's fine a scan.
Now on Google lymph node cancer came up and I'm freaking out!
He always has a cold or chest infection or ear infection so wouldn't say he is a well child all the time too.
Please could someone put my mind to rest, I couldn't cope with my DS being ill like that.

Seriously step away from Google.

It is most likely nothing serious, could just be he has low immunity and just keeps catching bugs.

However, if it is more serious you will cope because you have too.

Lymph nodes usually come up with an infection so that could explain why they haven't gone down. Also some people's lymph nodes are larger in general than others but with kids they're normally up because they're fighting something off. I'm not a doctor but I've had lymphoma and that's what I've been told every time I've panicked mine have been up since. Hope it's all ok

I have had persistently swollen lymph nodes since I was a child. I've had 2 removed because they were very large and painful constantly. Nothing serious has ever been found and my consultant just shrugged and said "some people are just lumpy".

If he always has a cough, cold or ear infection (as small children tend to do) then it is perfectly possible that his lymph nodes are reacting to those infections. They are doing their job basically.

My DDs lymph nodes have been swollen since her MMR. She's nearly 9 now!
She's in good health and never ill, so I'm not worried.

Agree with PP. I do sympathise as this is the kind of thing I worry about with my daughter.

I would guess though that if it has been the same there for nearly a year then it can't be serious or you'd really know about it, as he's so young.

Sounds to me like his immune system is really getting up and running, fighting off all these infections so his lymph nodes are always big. His immune system will be going as strong as an ox by the time he's 3!

Good luck with the tests.

We had this with Ds2, who is now 13. They did the blood tests and all was fine. He had lots of colds etc and just meant they didn’t go down.
I was also beside myself with worry but it was nothing. It’s good your GP is checking but please try not to worry .

Thank you for the reassurance. His has been well for 2 months before a viral infection last week. During those two months they were still up. Well I can only see 1 but the doctor said he could see 1 either side of his neck. But one really sticks out alot.

My DD aged 4 has swollen lymph nodes very frequently/always. Been that way since age was a baby. If it was anything serious I'd definitely know by now!'

Grobagsforever · 17/09/2018 19:36

Her pre-school have even pointed it out.

My friend had the same with her toddler and saw a specialist only to be told the tot was just lumpy!!
