Bear with me guys I know what I'm trying to say but I can't quite word it (newish poster).

I just read an article(don't know how to link sorry) where teachers were listing the worst things they have found in a pupils lunchbox one being red bull and monster munch,a cold happy meal,a can of shandy and a pork pie (because the pupil had to make lunch thereself) a packet of biscuits(because mum was sleeping) and one pupil said they had cereal with water for breakfast because mum had the milk for her coffee..

Is this real??i can't believe this there must be something that can be done?my little girl just started primary one (Scotland) and she had a packed lunch and is very fussy but I always give her a sandwich, strawberries, cheese string and water but I feel so sad for these other kids!

Sorry just wanted to talk about what I read.

Didn't miss the point at all thanks. You didn't differentiate between Poverty and Neglect. I suspect most of it is down to neglect, coming from a very very poor upbringing myself.

BMW6 RTFT then tell me I didn’t differentiate. Because I did, more than once, very, very clearly.

3 separate comments that I can see, including one using the actual word “differentiate”.

Energy drinks are even banned in ds's secondary (13-18) school.

But his packed lunches have always been what most peopl would call poor. In junior school school dinners were compulsory nd he just didn;t eat. In secondary his may only have plain bread and butter & crisps or cold plain pasta or a dairylea dunker (and yes I have sent cold chicken dippers or popcoen chicken in an attempt to get some protein in him) with chocolate milkshake but he is autistic and has sensory food issues.

he eats load of veg at home just not cold salad or any meat with texture.

It’s interesting to see the video of the Grenfell tower community cooking in their kitchen. Thy are bringing out a cookbook and and by the looks of it their cooking is full of nutritious meats, fruits and vegetables. These are some of the poorest, marginalised people in the UK and I’m betting their children are not going to school with a value doughnut and a packet of Wotsits for their lunch.

YeTalkShiteHen · 18/09/2018 10:01

AlexanderHamilton DS1 is autistic and although I’m very lucky that he doesn’t have sensory food issues some of his friends did at primary and had lunches like you describe.

I’d like to hope people would realise the difference between that and lazy parenting though. Flowers

We have some terrible packed lunches at school that are not down to poverty but really fussy eaters. We have a boy who has a dry crusty bun every single day because it is all he will eat (parents vv wealthy). Another has a pot noodle in a flask. Again a fussy eater. Initially these children may look neglected but they really are not. I'm aware that this is not the case all the time but don't judge until you know
