MAJOR TMI ALERT!!! Bleeding piles!

NameChangeNameChange5 · 16/09/2018 21:22

A while back, I had a pile that seemed to rupture. This is really embarrassing but I think it was an internal pile that had sort of come out, if that makes sense. I could actually see where the pile was bleeding from so didn't bother seeing the GP. I just treated with some anusol and it shrunk and went back inside. That was a couple of months ago.

Anyway, I had a bowel movement this morning which was quite difficult to pass and there was some pink coloured blood on the toilet paper when I wiped. Later, I had another BM and when I wiped there was bright red blood. With the pile being internal, I cannot see for certain that it's the pile causing me trouble again and I'm getting myself worried incase it's something else this time.

I do have a history of health anxiety and I've no one to talk to IRL about this so hoping someone can talk me down a little.

Does this sound consistent with a bleeding hemorrhoid? It's the pink coloured blood that's different to last time and got me questioning things.

Apologies again for the massively embarrassing post!

It's not embarrassing . It's just one of those shit (!) things we can get ! I've had mine banded ( came off in the loo in the hospital about 10 mins after being done ). When mine were really bad I could sit on the loo and hear the blood dripping in the toilet. Go to the doctors and get her / him to take enquiry look just to confirm and to be on the safe side. Try not to get constipated and give yourself enough time to 💩💩without forcing.

Thanks so much for replying. I'd really rather not see the GP as I was never out of there when my health anxiety was bad and I'm aware that I've been a bit of a drain on the NHS in the past.

If the bleeding goes over the next few days, is it safe to assume it's the piles again?

Really not embarrassed about this stuff either. I suffer bum issues and am very matter of fact now with GP and consultants who have seen mine. Just go to GP and explain what’s happened and they will help you. It does sound like it could be a troublesome pile and most likely is if you have a history of them. It’s pretty common but generally not discussed but a few minutes embarrassment at GP surgery is better than days of stressing as to what it might be.

I'm sure I heard that bright red blood is basically ok and highly likely to be a bleeding pile or small fissure. Dark old blood is more worrying due to it occurring higher up in the system for no obvious reason (such as straining slightly).

Trishtashtosh · 16/09/2018 21:56

@Namethecat

I was refused my external piles to be banded during an appointment with a consultant. In fact he almost laughed and said if he tried that I would "end up on the ceiling". Was it straight forward? When did you get this done? Could you PM me if you don't want to discuss on the three please?

WhateverHappenedToTheHeatwave · 16/09/2018 21:56

Ill be honest and say that when mine ruptures (bastard keeps reappearing) there is as much, if not more blood, as when I'm heaviest on my period.

Light pink colour came after like spotting. I think i ripped there too

Go and get it checked out. My friend held on and ended up with a fissure too. Those are agonising. Once you know its just your piles being cunts, you are prepared for next time

WhateverHappenedToTheHeatwave · 16/09/2018 21:58

Oh and lubricant is a good friend when piles have you constipated. You don't want to split if you need to strain.

Gammeldragz · 16/09/2018 21:58

Sounds exactly like piles to me. My DH has had this on almost a weekly basis for over 4 years. Currently awaiting second banding procedure (waited 3 years for the first!). They can be a nightmare and I really hope yours goes away by itself soon. They often do, DH has just been particularly unfortunate.

Trishtashtosh
I have to have colonoscopies as there is bowel Cancer in the family, mine were banded at the same time as I'd had light sedation, I remember him asking if I'd had any plans such as holidays or anything social as it can be painful but like I mentioned I went to the loo whilst still in hospital and noticed a couple of bands in the loo. ( If any remained didn't feel pain) But I still have blood etc so I'm guessing it didn't work !

DaphneClark · 16/09/2018 22:31

I thought mine was piles and treated with over the counter meds. It was ulcerative colitis. (Fully manageable with diet, have had 2 flare ups in 20 years.)

See a doc just in case.

NameChangeNameChange5 · 16/09/2018 22:43

Thanks all. Luckily no pain this time which is a relief! I'll be making sure I'm well hydrated and eating plenty of fibre. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

use glycerine suppositories - push in & wait half an hour ! but please check with your gp or go to nurse first to make certain its nothing else.

NameChangeNameChange5 · 16/09/2018 22:54

The thing is... I have seen them with my own eyes before so I'm pretty confident it's that. Also with it starting after a painful BM. Seems to add up.

You’re not a drain. Please go to the gp. They will examine you and if there’s no obvious cause, so a scope.

GarlicGrace · 16/09/2018 23:12

Yep, I'd say it's 99% certain to be haemorrhoids (thank god my spellcheck knows the long word for piles!) Being a gorgeous example of pristine & polished womanhood myself, I've had the buggers for 20 years and the tying-off thing never works properly. Sometimes there's quite a cascade of blood, but usually it's just smears on the toilet paper.

There are other possible causes, plus it's obviously better to have 'em tied off. So see your GP about it :) Here's the NHS page
