Any positive stories from those with lots of student neighbours?

Hello
I've just moved into a new house and have just realised we have a lot of student houses nearby and more students (7!) are moving in next door this week....
Anyone else had this and been surprised by the lack of noise?
I know Its unfair to judge but I'm a bit scared of ongoing noise- I love my peace and quiet and work long shifts.....

We had three years of this. As pps have said, they generally move on after a year.
We had two lots of noisy ones (landlord did nothing ) bur the middle lot were wonderful. Came round very apologetically to say that they were having a party in a weeks time but would keep the noise down...hardly heard them.
It really depends on landlord and university attitudes.

Thanks for all your replies!
A lovely friend has just texted to say the ones next to her had a massive party til 5am last weekend and are having another tonight
I really feel for her as she has two kids under 4.... that's just plain selfish isn't it?
Don't students want to be OUT doing the partying? Ours are due to arrive tomorrow I think .......

You've got options.

1 contact the landlord and complain

2 contact the university and complain, via university housing service (look on website for a neighbours liaison or mediation service)

3 contact the Council and complain (Environmental Health for noise, mess; Private Sector Housing for tenancy breaches such as nuisance, overcrowding, etc)

4 tell the students (via a letter through letterbox - keep a copy) that you are complaining, and to knock it off

5 if you feel intimidated, or there is drug use, rowdiness, fighting etc, don't be afraid to ask for a police visit. We've had students dealing class A drugs in our road. They're not all ingénues

6 keep each agency informed about what the other knows / is doing. They don't do this automatically.

7 pray for the end of June 2019

Good luck.

How do you find out who the landlord is, if the occupants won't tell?

Hope it’s a better experience than some here op. Friend of ours has had students move in next door and found - they studied hard and were quiet (and they were drama and arts students not eg medics etc). They put notes Through when having parties which were then no real problem. They ended up being trusted friends and house sat/cat sat when friend away etc. Mature and lovely kids. They stayed for three or four years (postgrad and post university Employment). It can be positive. As you have discovered it is a student area, way way up your sleeve keep the thought that it
Means selling won’t be a problem if things make it unlivable for you.

We had lovely students next door who took a shine to my kids and wanted to babysit free of charge, plus play with the dog and walk him. All girls and it's predominantly detached houses so perhaps it makes a difference

This morning at 4am, a student had the audacity to say to our faces "we are fed up with you coming round to ask for quiet".

Shot herself in the foot there. She has proved she won't listen to us. Next step, landlord (details obtained from Land Registry), and University Academic Registrar, mentioning other contacts we have within the university...
