Boring question- can I tumble dry it?

Dd’s new school uniform skirt needs washing. I just checked the label and it says not to tumble dry! No idea how else to get it dry by morning... will it be safe on low heat? It’s 60% viscose, 40% polyester and a kilt type. If this goes wrong I can’t replace it before school starts tomorrow. Do I risk it? Or is there a safer way to dry it?

Redken24 · 16/09/2018 19:06

Sorry lol can you stick on radiator

HollowTalk · 16/09/2018 19:07

Can you sponge it down instead?

It should dry quickly if man made fibre anyway so hang in airing cupboard or above a radiator and finish on radiator in morning if still damp.

WrongKindOfFace · 16/09/2018 19:11

I reckon a poly viscose mix will dry fairly quickly. Double spin it. The can you bung it on a radiator or iron it partially dry?

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 16/09/2018 19:11

How long would it take on the radiator? The heating isn’t on yet, but I could put it on briefly if it won’t take long. It’s from a school uniform shop.

Hang it over a curtain pole. Will be dry by morning.
We do this quite often!

WrongKindOfFace · 16/09/2018 19:14

Just iron it dry then. Not bone dry, just to take the damp out then hang it up somewhere warmish.

Strawberrybelly · 16/09/2018 19:17

If you have an airing cupboard stick it in there. If not radiators.

Upsy1981 · 16/09/2018 19:41

Wash, hang on hanger, hang from curtain pole in front of slightly open window, blasted the waist band with hairdryer if its not quite dry in the morning (taking care not to burn fabric obviously).

PattiStanger · 16/09/2018 19:45

How did it get to need washing at 7pm on Sunday, hasn't it needed to be washed since Friday afternoon Smile

I wouldn't tumble dry something that says it can't be, that's a recipe for having to buy a new one

WrongKindOfFace · 16/09/2018 20:00

Have you not met a teenager and their floordrobe, Patti?

NoLeslie · 16/09/2018 20:08

For now, sponge any mucky bits and dry with a hairdryer. Tomorrow I think you need to buy a second skirt.

AppleKatie · 16/09/2018 20:11

Fast spin. Hang up on curtain pole/in a doorway that’s draughty at night.

Iron/blast with a hairdryer to get the damp out in the morning.

MadhousMom59 · 16/09/2018 20:14

When my grandson was at juniors he wore polo shirts. Which I hung on hangers in the winter in the house. Now he's wearing cotton shirts I can put them in the dryer.

PattiStanger · 16/09/2018 20:28

I have teenagers myself wrongkindofface but always manage to get the school unform washed and dried before 7pm on a Sunday. That's not unusual is it?

AppleKatie · 16/09/2018 20:52

I don’t think it’s unusual to generally manage that. But if you’ve never once had a slip up... well good for you but not everyone’s perfect eh?

SmokeAndBone · 16/09/2018 21:12

Pattistanger - well, get you.
You have no idea what is happening in the OPs life that she has found herself rushing to get uniform dry on a Sunday evening. Ffs.

And the Smile didn't make your post any better.

WrongKindOfFace · 16/09/2018 21:34

No, it’s not unusual, Patti, but unless you tick each item of clothing off a list when doing the laundry it’s easy to miss one item. Stuff happens.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 16/09/2018 23:24

Patti- she was at her Dad’s Friday and Saturday. We had a family day out today, and I assumed it would be able to be washed and dried this evening (her primary uniform was much more practical!)

dinosaurkisses · 16/09/2018 23:27

I’d bung it in the dryer on a low heat, but I’m very laissez faire with garment care instructions- they’re more suggestions in this house!

Spacezombies · 16/09/2018 23:28

Hang it then a blast with a hairdryer in the morning if it's not dry. It's really a non issue.

LapdanceShoeshine · 16/09/2018 23:31

Viscose isn’t manmade and it shrinks (as I know to my cost Sad)

And a viscose/poly mix can go a bit lumpy (ditto)

OP, can you hang it up somewhere warm overnight & then give it a quick tumble in the morning? (And/or iron it, which might stretch it again a bit if necessary)

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 16/09/2018 23:31

I’d have put it in the drier if it was earlier and I’d have chance to replace if needed. I may wash and dry it next weekend just to see.
It’s on the (cold) radiator now, hoping heating comes on overnight, if not it’s the hairdryer!

Gawd you grief for anything here nowadays. I remember when it were nowt but fields and people being supportive.

Anyhow I'd give it a brief blast if it's polyester if it were a cheap one. Maybe not if it was a fancy pleated one.

I've got a teenager with a floordrobe who will suddenly dump 5 wire shirts in the basket at 21:00 on a Sunday when I've been at work all weekend. I have a de-smell cycle on the machine though and I'll do one on that.
