Things that are nice but not worth the hassle

I made sweet potato gnocci for dinner yesterday from scratch. They were lovely. But they also covered both me and my kitchen with a thick layer of orange gloop that took ages to scrub off. And the gnocci were all funny shapes since they were too sticky to roll out properly. I shan't bother again.

In the same category I put properly decorating the house for Christmas/Halloween. I love decor but can only just be arsed to decorate the tree/carve a pumpkin. So they are the only things that get done despite the fact I would love a house covered head to foot in fairy lights/skeletons.

A decent skincare routine. Can barely remember/be arsed to slap on a moisturiser most nights let alone toner, eye cream or anything of that ilk. Am convinced I would have dewy, glowing skin ala a South Korean skincare advert if only I could be bothered to use 39 different products every day.

Anything else?

Skiing. Fun but lots of effort and expense. And cold, so cold.

OurMiracle1106 · 16/09/2018 19:45

Nice dresses and heels to match.

Fresh broad beans - de-podding for frigging hours and only get a centimetre's depth in a tiny pan. See also - Brussels Sprouts.

Visiting MIL in the summer or bank holiday weekends. She lives at the seaside, we can get there in less than 2hrs on a ‘normal’ day but bank holidays - even if shite weather is forecast and over the summer is a no, no now. Shame, I actually love my MIL.

Growing strawberries. They ripen at a rate of about one every two days, and then the birds get them before you can.

Make-up. I wear a face full most days, but it does strike me as a right ball ache. Put it on, take it off, put it on, take it off...

Full English breakfast. I find it more of a pain to make than a roast. It's hard to get the timings right, it's not that filling and the washing up afterwards is a pain in the arse.

Parboiled roast potatoes.

Baths.

Going out at night.

Primark.

I saw a cleaning guru on instagram. She puts a cup full of fabric softener and mixes it with water in a spray bottle. Then sprays it over clothes or duvets when they are in the bed. I swear to god ( and I have done it ) the creases all went away.

Mitch - Yep, I do that for soup. But for curries etc, I buy the ready sliced stuff.

Folding a fitted sheet

Homemade lasagne

Hair and make up every day

Stopping for charity fundraisers

Getting a manicure - mine always chips within minutes!

Roast dinners! My mum says they’re the easiest meal in the world to cook. Like fuck they are, so much faff and so much washing up!

Re lasagne, It doesn’t feel like a faff to make for me. But simple mashed potato, ugh, too much effort 😂

Bunnyhop1502 · 16/09/2018 20:03

Using a full tea set (pot, milk jug etc). I love it but it does seem a bit pointless.

POPholditdown · 16/09/2018 20:04

Make-up yes! I wore full face everywhere since I was about 16 (28 now), was obsessed with all the contouring/youtube MUA trend. This past year, I’ve just stopped wearing anything bar eyebrow filler. Occasionally mascara.

I love makeup, and get tempted occasionally but I look forward to getting up now, knowing I don’t need to paint my faceGrin

Baking (anything) far too lazy, just gimme cake.

Elllicam · 16/09/2018 20:07

See I think roast dinner is easy and lasagna is a pain. Also picking fruit, it looks such a lovely family day out. In reality everyone gets covered in juice, the kids eat mould/wasps/mud and then you come out with 6 manky green strawberries that go mushy on the windowsill for £3.60.

Lasagne is a faff, but so worth it, I’ve never bought a pre made lasagne that tastes as good as home made, and don’t even get me started on dolmio sauces!

Sparklingbrook · 16/09/2018 20:08

YY to baking. Supermarkets sell all that stuff ready made.

Roast dinners-go to a Carvery.

theboxofdelights · 16/09/2018 20:08

Keeping chickens, such a lot of work for a few eggs.

MrsJayy · 16/09/2018 20:11
