Is the Harry Potter studios tour worth a visit?

Thinking of getting the dc tickets and overnight stay as a family Christmas present, is it worth it?

It would work out about £300 for the 5 of us, dc are 16 (doing media studies), 13 and 8. They all like HP but not super fans. We'd be travelling down from NW.

It's so hard to find something that works for all the ages.

Yes. I'm not a fan at all but thought it was amazing and would happily go again.

haverhill · 15/09/2018 22:42

We went recently and loved it.

PerspicaciaTick · 15/09/2018 22:42

Yes definitely!

WickedGoodDoge · 15/09/2018 22:43

Yes. I have no interest in Harry Potter at all and I loved it.

SillySallySingsSongs · 15/09/2018 22:43

Absolutely without a doubt.

bluebump · 15/09/2018 22:43

Yes! It’s really good.

PandaG · 15/09/2018 22:44

We loved it. Not obsessed fans, but read all the books/ seen all the films. I would happily go again, especially at Christmas.

Bellie99 · 15/09/2018 22:45

Yes yes yes!

EvilRingahBitch · 15/09/2018 22:47

I’d say so (depending on what 300 quid means to your budget of course). We went as a family with four very different levels of HP fandom and we all had a whale of a time from our very different perspectives. The media studies child will love it. Watch the films beforehand.

SueDunome · 15/09/2018 22:49

It is absolutely fantastic. Again, I am not a Harry Potter fan, but I loved it and would go back again in a heartbeat.

Beware of the equally amazing gift shop, though, which has all things HP. It is so easy to spend a fortune here, so either avoid it (not easy) or start saving and be prepared for it.

I hope you have a great day.

itswinetime · 15/09/2018 22:55

Yes I have been multiple time (big fan) with various people both fans and those staying over just to take dc everyone has loved it/found it interesring I imagine doing media studies some of the special effect behind the Scenes will be particularly of note. For the younger ones there is a place to practice 'spells' and it's interactive in places it's a good mix in my experience.

My advice
Go when it is done up for Christmas
Don't get the butterbeer (if you really must one per group is more than enough)
Don't eat there pick a tour time that means you can eat before/after
Don't get the paid for photos
Don't buy anything in the shop you can get cheaper online.

JustlikeDevon · 15/09/2018 22:56

We are huge fans, so really loved it. Price v worth -it- ness I thought was v reasonable it's a good couple of hours (more for mega fans) and we had a great time. Have to say, if dd weren't a fan (teenager) id be more inclined to do an escape room, a walk over the o2, the cable car as part of a London trip.

MrsEricBana · 15/09/2018 23:05

Before we went I thought , I hope it's ok as It seems expensive, but it was amazing and decent value and we're fans but not superfans. Enjoy!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2018 23:05

We went a few years ago , not huge fans and I;ve only watched the films up to the one where they;re all in the MFM and there's all the tiled walls (cannot remember much , I stopped watching)

It is good, loads to see. There's two giant warehouses and when we went you couldn't go back.

No spoilers but the introduction bit was Whoah Grin

Morethanthisprovincallife · 15/09/2018 23:54

Yes. Not super fans here either but really enjoyed it and the writers own story... Is pretty inspiring... They do Short thing about her before it starts

But... Will you combine with trip to London etc? It's pretty bleak where its actually based..

Queenofthedrivensnow · 15/09/2018 23:55

It's really good but take a picnic the food is extortionate and not very good. I got acbit stressed about the food I wish I had planned better.

It's quite tiring. Don't plan anything afterward. We had a bloody christening to go to. Urgh.

There arnt enough toilets

IWantMyHatBack · 16/09/2018 00:36

Left door when you go into the holding area.

That is all.

You're welcome.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/09/2018 00:40

Worth every penny. The butterbeer is vile.

toothgenie · 16/09/2018 00:42

It's a yes from me too.

SunnyintheSun · 16/09/2018 00:47

Yes. Just take food and allow plenty of time. And the shop is a rip off...

YouBetterWORK · 16/09/2018 00:54

It's great! I'm absolutely itching to go back, I went a few years ago and they've added the forest and platform 9 3/4 since my visit. I didn't actually mind the butterbeer! And the shop is brilliant, it took a lot of willpower to not buy a cuddly Fawkes.

However now we have DD, if we go back I'm totally getting that Fawkes. For her of course but really for me

Pumpkintopf · 16/09/2018 01:11

Yes definitely. Fab.

MouldyVoldy · 16/09/2018 01:13

Yes.

Alexindisguise · 16/09/2018 07:23

Thank you that's a resounding yes then!

I'll get it booked and take all your points on board, thank you.

I'm excited now Grin
