Dim lighting in hotel rooms

Why are hotels so stingy with the lighting in their bedrooms?

DD and I stayed away last night for a university open day and had every lamp on in the room, plus entrance light and both bathroom lights on to be able to see properly. Hotels never seem to have central ceiling lights, just wall lights with 25W or equivalent bulbs in.

I don't want mood lighting. I just want to be able to see properly.

I agree. It's poor in so many hotels, even the decent ones.

RockNRollNerd · 15/09/2018 20:37

Totally agree. Also not enough towels of the right size to dry yourself and your hair, mirrors nowhere near the only decent light, stupid wired in hairdryers that emit less hot air than a gnats fart and also aren’t within distance of a mirror. Add in far too many hangars with clips are rubbish for dresses and tops and the bazillion switches and combinations to turn the lights all off when you go to bed as well.

Can you tell I stay in hotels a lot when travelling with work and feel your pain! Grin

it's on purpose so you spend time in the restaurant/bar rather than the room.
££ is the reason...

It’s my biggest bug bear. I checked out of a hotel in San Francisco because lighting was so poor. Even in bathroom.

It’s weird. I get especially annoyed in winter when I go away with friends and we have to fight over the only usable mirror to put our make up on.

It's so you can't see the dirt

hmmwhatatodo · 15/09/2018 21:32

I’ve mostly stayed in bed and breakfasts so haven’t really had that problem. My issues is usually with the tv and lack of stations. Shouldn’t you be treated with a good range of stuff to watch or at least be able to get reception for most normal channels?

fussychica · 15/09/2018 21:33

How odd. We've just stayed in 2 Airbnbs and the lighting was horrendous but too bright rather than dim. I brought out a lamp from the bedroom into the lounge in this one so I can sit in a pleasant glow rather than stark light.

LoniceraJaponica · 15/09/2018 21:34

Lighting can never be too bright for me. I don't have great eyesight. Dim rooms depress me as well.
