Q - I’m making pizza but don’t have bread flour?

Only plain or SR. I cannot be arsed to go back to Tesco. I’d normally only ever use strong bread flour for pizza bases.

Which is going to be the safest bet? I will be using yeast to rise.

Pizza dough works perfectly well with plain flour. Add some yeast, a splash of good olive oil, salt and enough water to make a smooth dough and let it rest. ... Plain flour has gluten, so it can develop the bready texture of pizza dough. -taken from quora

Brilliant. Dough in mixer right now so I am reassured! Thanks!

You can also make a pretty good pizza dough from roughly equal parts self raising flour and natural yogurt (Greek works best) - I also add a bit of salt. Doesn't need kneading or rising so useful if you don't have time to make proper dough. It doesn't have the depth of flavour of a proper risen dough but with all the toppings that hardly matters

I've done similar to Duggees too and made a 'scone base' with butter and self raising. I actually prefer it to proper dough but the rest of my family disagree!

You can use self raising to make the base and cook in a pan ran than the oven, no proofing too. There's a Jamie Oliver recipe somewhere.

I used to always use plain flour and made it on the dough setting on the breadmaker. Best dough ever. Then the kids would make the pizzas, trying to spin dough and look proffesonal, and I'd put them in the oven.
