Kidney pain or back pain

Hi everyone. I'm waiting for a go appointment but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. Oh with dc4 only 8 ish weeks. The last few days I have had terrible pain in my right side of my back in the kidney region. No other symptoms. Don't think it's a if uti or stones. Had a uti last month and didn't get back pain.

If it's not any if those what could it be? It hurts but I'm not rolling in pain. It's more a dull ache. I have a bad lower back to but this is an oncoming issue and a different pain to this. Dh working away and no one to watch the kids so can't go to ooh.

I read it might be swelling: hydronephrosis?

Can't see go for a while as fully booked and not deemed an emergency. 5 week wait...

Have you any other symptoms in addition to back pain? Is your temp up at all, do you fill nauseous, any soreness around the urethra?

I have hydronephrosis and often feel a fullness/tightness around the affected kidney area. With a kidney infection I had all the symptoms I asked about above whIch got suddenly worse.

The thing that makes me wonder if yours could be an infection is that you’ve recently had a uti which might not have totally responded to treatment. Did you have antibiotics for it? Uncomplicated uti doesn’t usually cause pain in the kidney area. It usually hurts there if the infection has started travelling up into a kidney.

You can have stones without being in agony I think. Whatever is going on you need to be seen ASAP. If it is an infection they can get worse very suddenly and very quickly . I would say that it’s not safe to expect you to wait 5 weeks for a gp appt. if the pain gets worse you need to be seen as quickly as you can. If it stays the same and you don’t feel ill I would ask for an emergency appt on Monday. Our gp will always ring back if you say you have kidney pain and would always ask someone to go in to be checked over.

Thanks for replying. I had the uti about 6 weeks ago with antibiotics. Was fine after. No other symptoms no temperature only morning sickness which started way before this and has eased up last few days. The way you described it sounds right. It's like a tight feeling wrapped around it.

No trouble going to the loo. No pain nothing just this right feeling but not a spasm

I have my first midwife check on Tuesday so will mention it. She might be able to get a go to pop in

Yes definitely mention It to the midwife Tuesday. But if it gets any worse at all before then or changes into a feeling like a kneading pain in the kidney and like you’ve got lots of trapped wind In it ( sorry it’s the only way I can try describe kidney pain from a kidney infections) then please don’t wait. And definitely if your pregnant your gp would be very irresponsible to tell you to wait 5 weeks for an appointment.

Maliali · 15/09/2018 17:51

And sorry forgot to say if you start to feel unwell and/or your temp goes up definitely don’t hang about waiting for an appointment. That needs sorting straight away,

Thanks Maliali! X

I gave myself a bit of a massage there and the 0ain has eased a bit so hoping it's just a dodgy back!

Kidney stones are the worst pain ever you honestly would rather be cut in half it's so bad ...I'm guessing probably back pain or maybe infection but as you had antibiotics recently would of cleared any infection I guess.

Kidneyvback · 15/09/2018 21:29

Thanks Palmer. Yeah I was more worried about an infection than stones. Saying that I get this pain on and off for the last few years. So I am thinking I just have a dodgy back from pregnancies etc. But you know what it's like. Dh goes away you start googling and worry yourself! Lol

I would still see a gp or nurse it's always best to know and non of us are experts.
They certainly won't think your silly for having it checked out.
I've had stones and was getting the odd pain again a few months back I thought maybe was my back but went to gp and they sent me for a scan and it turns out I still have one there Confused
There's nothing they can do for it but it's good to know what it is as the uncertainty can be worse sometimes.

Good point Palmer thanks. I will tell the midwife on Tuesday. Hope you feel better soon x
