ICandy double buggy- second or third hand, what to do?

Accidently put this in ‘parenting’ but maybe chat is better-
Have found a icandy peach double buggy in great condition for £500, doesn’t have the carrycot so would need to buy this separately.
Or found one third hand, older model I think, but includes the carrycot for £275.
It’s grubbier and hasn’t been looked after that we’ll but it looks like it will do the job.
Ds is just turned 2 so I’m not sure how much longer he’d be in the buggy for anyway

Seems a lot for a second hand buggy. eBay sold prices are £100 -130.

SpottingTheZebras · 15/09/2018 12:08

They both sound expensive for what you are getting.

You can always get grubby pram covers professionally cleaned.

Giantbabybump24 · 15/09/2018 12:20

To be honest I’m not too fussed about the grubbiness, it’s more than I would worry it might fall apart being so used.
I think brand new they are over £1000 so thought price was ok- the third hand cheaper option seems to make more sense but the more expensive second hand was in really great condition and would definitely last, and could potentially be sold on again.
Then again DS who’s 2 might not want to be in the buggy for much longer anyway so we might only get a years use out of it.

I don't think I'd want my newborn in a grubby, not looked after carry cot tbh.

I think I'd spend the extra and get a good condition 2nd hand one.

Considering they're £1000 brand new with all the attachments I think £500 is reasonable as long as it's in good condition.

Have you considered a new Phil and Teds?

Giantbabybump24 · 15/09/2018 12:28

Yeah I’d get it properly cleaned - also maybe I’d feel differently once the baby is here and I remember how tiny newborns are and not like my grubby toddler!

I’m seeing lots of stuff on here about Phil and teds but I’ve only heard bad things from friends like that they’re really heavy and awkward- the icandy is so easy to steer, it’s pretty narrow and easy to fold up and doesn’t take up too much space in the car. May look into Phil and teds again though

Icandys sell well 2nd hand. I bought a peach second hand and sold for more than I had bought it for (was the new model at the time).

I would possibly buy carrycot second hand then sell again on its own straight away once you’ve finished.

The only thing I would say is the seats on the peach are small, if you have a small 2 year old fine but if they are on the bigger side then you may struggle.

The peach is handy for short trips when 2 year old can walk as you can just put one seat on and saves you having a double.

Other option is to buy the normal peach (not blossom which is with the second seat) and use the carrycot and the main seat then once baby outgrows the carrycot you can assess if 2 year old still needs pram and buy the 2nd seat separately.

Giantbabybump24 · 15/09/2018 12:35

Littledinaco- yes I noticed the same thing, he’s about average but i do wonder how much use we’d get out of it- maybe a year.
What would you go for between more exp second hand or cheaper (but not that cheap) third hand (which has all the parts we need)?

Will your 2 year old be comfortable in winter coats etc in it? I doubt he'll be in it much come next spring, but be in plenty during cold, wet, miserable winter weather.

littledinaco · 15/09/2018 12:42

Personally I’d go for the newer one (maybe try to negotiate the price down a bit) as it’s probably less likely to break and easier to sell on. Plus saves the hassle of cleaning it.

Has it got all the adaptors with it as they can be expensive? And rain covers?

If he’s average, yes you’d probably get until he doesn’t really need a pram.

I found when I was looking it was cheaper to buy a normal second hand peach and then the carrycot but may have changed now. Then sell the carrycot and buy 2nd seat if needed.

Giantbabybump24 · 15/09/2018 13:39

Yes the newer ones has both rain covers, all adaptors, new wheels replaced recently... the only thing it doesn’t have is the carrycot annoyingly so I’d still need to source that!
The older one is missing 1 rain over and the carrycot footmuff. Starting to think it’s a bit overpriced for 3rd hand and for the condition it’s in since they probably bought it already second hand for less than double the price they want...

2 yo would be ok in a thick winter clothing I reckon but that’s a good thing to consider! Another reason why I think he’s not ready for the buggy board actually - think he’d be much more comfy and snug in his buggy for a bit longer

I had a Nipper 360 double, can not praise it enough !!

littledinaco · 15/09/2018 14:35

I’ve had a 360 nipper and a peach blossom (and a couple of other doublesBlush). If you do lots of walking, country parks, etc the nipper is great but if you’re doing lots of shopping, in and out the car, sometimes only have one DC then the peach is much better.

I would get the newer one, buy a second hand carrycot and then sell in a few months when baby outgrows, you will probably lose very little.

Giantbabybump24 · 15/09/2018 14:38

Thanks dinaco, that’s what I’m thinking too. I considered the nipper 360 but the seats seem quite tilted backwards and DS would absolutely hate that! Also would definitely be using it more around town on narrow pavement than off road

OP posts:
littledinaco · 15/09/2018 14:41

If your DS walks a bit too the nipper can be awkward to push holding hands/watching him as it’s wide, whereas the peach is the same as a single. Yea, lots of kids hate the nipper seats!

Pringlesaddict · 15/09/2018 15:11

Whatever you do (and I think both are overpriced fwiw) smell the thing.

Smell it inside.

I've bought a buggy and didn't realise until got home that it reeked of smoke.

Cheeseplantandpickle · 15/09/2018 15:15

I paid £500 for a second hand double I candy with the carry cot bit too. It's still going strong for number 3. I think ask for a reduction on the second hand one. I think the third hander is being a bit cheeky tbh.
