Any mn tips for looking after poorly DC?

DS 2 woke up at 2.30 projectile vomiting, then progressed to upset tummy.

Lots of bedding to remove and wash. This got me wondering about any tips - I love the mn tips threads so I wondered if anyone had any for loooking after poorly DC ( or any poorly person)?

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure some people used to put on layers of bedding. So, waterproof mattress cover, top sheet, waterproof mattress cover, top sheet etc. Then you don't have to completely make a bed in the night.

I put mine on the sofa with tv on low. I put towels on the floor and ask them to aim for the towel if possible. They usually sleep things off.

Thanks lots of fluids, whatever he'll drink, and don't worry about food till until he wants some.

And don't forget to look after yourself ... Brew

Thanks Errol. Starting to feel dodgy myself.

He is currently on the sofa watching YouTube on the tv.

We did the layers thing on the bed. It went through all of them Shock

The big pads you buy for toilet training puppies. They absorb everything, later the bed up with some of those if you can get hold of some.

If he won't drink, he might suck an ice lolly.

Good luck, it's miserable with an ill child.

Wrap them in towels when on the sofa. Layer towels over their pillow/upper portion of the bed. Much easier to clean up/catch the mess.

It’s better for them to eat and drink a little bit if they fancy it even if they vomit up some of it.

I have a vomit box. Latex gloves, small bottle of squash (I don’t normally have it in), snack packs of Jacobs cream crackers, anti bac wipes, those squeezy baby pouches of stewed apples. Just means it’s all in one place and not used up when needed in the night.

And use tv as much as you need. Now is not the time for parental scruples

Put all puked on items in the bath. Deal with them in the morning. Only panic when bath full of puked on items and you have run out of bedding and towels.

Third wash of the day running!

Hot wash and zoflora all the way. It’s a nice day here so I can dry on the line, which helps.

If he’s struggling to keep fluids down, you can get into a vicious cycle where he could get dehydrated. Try ice lollies instead. They’re gentler on the stomach (tip from when I worked on the oncology ward with chemo patients).
