Please cheer me up - silly accident now on crutches

So I decided to do something positive just for me. Fun and exercise - I joined a dance class. Session one and I've ruptured my Achilles' tendon. I'm so fed up. I'm in plaster. On crutches. I have to live away for work so there is no family support. My partially decorated flat is a building site and DH is going away for a week for work tomorrow. I'm so frustrated and I can't believe this has happened- I only wanted a bit of fun!

Please can you cheer me up a bit and if you have any positive stories of dealing with crutches / my injury I'd be grateful as so far people have just sucked in their breath and looked horrified and it's scaring me - I don't get a scan for a week and I need to believe that I will recover. Thanks. I'm partial to pictures of dogs if no one can help with good recovery stories.

Aw, sorry to hear that. My dh ruptured his Achilles’ tendon playing badminton, gosh, about nine years ago. He had a big boot thing, and was on crutches for quite a long time, two or three months? Can’t ask him as he’s gone out. Anyway, he just got on with life, he still went to work, even when it was icy. He got very good at using crutches. It’s worth getting cycling gloves to wear with crutches as it is really hard on your hands, blisters etc.

I ruptured my Achilles' tendon by stepping off a driveway in Spain without seeing it (only about a 3" drop!) - managed to break my ankle at the same time and was in plaster for about 12 weeks. Use gardening gloves with the crutches, otherwise you'll get sore hands. I found when I laid down if I put my foot on a pillow so it was elevated, it aches less.

I put my back out on Thursday by picking up puking cat and trying to get him outside before he puked. I didn’t manage it. Result - I am in pain and had to clear up the trail of cat puke from the lounge to the front door. Cat didn’t seem to care either way....

Thanks for the tip, I'll get some gloves. I managed to get to sleep again until b&q rang me up to go and pick up my click and collect order. No I can't! Glad to hear some people did this and are now back to normal. 2-3 month though - gulp

My daughter has been on crutches since January, she rates the crutch grip pads I got from amazon that have a gel cushion. They weren’t cheap (£20) but she’s had her money’s worth by now. She’s having an op next Tuesday to hopefully make her kneecap more stable.

When I was in my late teens I sprained my jaw which was incredibly painful. Not quite as painful as having to explain that I’d done it by doing a massive yawn!
