My neighbour's washing line.

I can't bear it anymore, I have to share this with you.

A shirt hung from the collar by one peg.
Several pairs of pants scrunched into one peg
A t-shirt hung at an angle, one peg in the middle of the shoulder, one somewhere around nipple level.
A large tablecloth(?) just sort of thrown at the line, dragging a corner on the grass.

All mixed colours, all mixed pegs, all out there for days now.

Maybe you can take a pic of your washing line, with your undies hidden well on the inside rows, and post it through her door with a little note saying this is how you should hang your washing for maximum drying and less ironing. Grin

marvelousways · 14/09/2018 20:57

oh no....that would also drive me mad. I would have to climb over the fence and hang it properly.
I must admit though, I also have an adult highly intelligent-- son who does this whenever he is back from Uni (yes, using the abbreviation and I don't care!) He is now under strict instruction to get his washing done, dried and brought back in all whilst I'm at work so I don't have to look at it on the line!!

Rebecca36 · 14/09/2018 21:12

That's all very well marvelousways because it's your line.
A neighbour's washing line is entirely their business.

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 14/09/2018 22:12

When we had builders in, I had to get up before they arrived so as to peg the washing on the airer and get it out the back door into the back garden. If i was late, I had to put the airer in the front garden, complete with knickers tidily pegged on a pants and socks hanging thingy.
BUT at least they were pegged properly!

AviatorShades · 14/09/2018 22:22

My old neighbour used to peg out her husband and her's washing - except for his underpants because......."he was at Oxford, you know"

I draped one of our bed sheets over the garden chairs and table to dry in the sun because our actual washing line was in the shade... I also hung some things on the trellis because it also gets the most sun.

When I was inside as I had the window open slightly I could hear my neighbours in their garden having a bitch about it....
For twenty whole minutes....

Makes me want to do it more often....

Sorry10 · 14/09/2018 22:34

Ok deep breaths
I seriously think you need to get a life
My NDN leaves get washing out for days but so what it's not my washing .

TheFogsGettingThicker · 15/09/2018 00:01

I don't have a washing line any more - it was taken down as our extension work had transformed garden into a building site, and now there is nowhere to affix it.

So when I've needed to put bed sheets/duvet cover out to dry, I've draped them over the trampoline net frame.

Job's a good un Grin

Catastic · 15/09/2018 02:56

Can you scramble over under the cover of darkness and fix it peg ninja style?

Whereismumhiding2 · 15/09/2018 05:47

Hmm @sorry10 & @Rebecca36
It's clearly a jokey light hearted thread, & pp's answers are tongue in cheek. Perhaps you two haven't released!?! HmmGrin

Whereismumhiding2 · 15/09/2018 05:50

*realised! Not released Grin
Stoopid autocorrect on phone..!

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/09/2018 06:46

I had a neighbour once whose pants were on the washing line with one peg. For nine months. Confused

AviatorShades · 15/09/2018 07:17

dontgiveamonkey those werent any old pants, that was what the Security Services call a pantsflag signalling to the enemyShock. Probably KGB infiltrating the country! Do you live near Salisbury by any chance? No logging this one, straight to MI5/6/851 with you. Your Country Needs You!

I am a flinger. Life seems too short for pegging, unless feeling meditative. It will dry in time, and I buy clothes that don’t crease. I don’t turn clothes the right way out before hanging them in the wardrobe either.

DH is a twitcher and this is why he has adopted all laundry responsibilities Grin.

ShotsFired · 15/09/2018 11:32

People. You are not taking this seriously.

You have now had to have TWO tellings-off from people who - out of the goodness of their hearts - have come along to point out the error of your ways.

You're not just letting yourselves down you know....

Friends NDN sent her husband in to fix friends washing line because "the weather was so nice and it's been down for a couple of weeks now"Grin

Marmite27 · 15/09/2018 12:06

At my mums a few weeks ago, my DC3 was asked to help Granny bring the washing in before the night creatures got in it.

DC3 heared this as ‘sea creatures’ and keeps looking for them in the wash baskets. I hid a Nemo in there the other day Wink

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 15/09/2018 12:08

Rehang it.

My neighbour's washing line.

No wonder the country is in such a state. Think about it... the person who did this is probably allowed to breed and vote! I clearly live in a ‘naice’ area as the washing lines I can see all have properly pegged out washing blowing nicely in the breeze and pegs are removed from lines when not in use. In fact, I and the neighbour on one side actually put our lines away in our sheds when not in use.

MiddlingMum · 15/09/2018 13:49

Each garment needs two pegs, which must be matching, and colour-coordinated with the garment. Socks must be pegged neatly in pairs, with the feet pointing the same way. Clashing colours must not be touching, try to separate them with neutral coloured garments. If there is more than one of a garment eg school shirt, they should be next to each other.

Clothes and bed linen need to be pegged out on different days. Towels should be kept for another day.

My aunt would have liked to add that all washing should be turned round after an hour or two so that it dries evenly on both sides.

(disclaimer: most of that is lighthearted, but it's a sorry state of affairs on MN when you actually have to state that.)

TyrionsNextWife · 15/09/2018 14:07

I don’t know if I’m an awful person or not - my washing is hung out beautifully straight and in order of type/size of clothing, but I regularly wash my towels in the evening and hang them out overnight Blush

Nothing else gets left out overnight though, just towels!

Oldraver · 15/09/2018 14:10

My OH does this..this week he managed to hang my work trousers somewhere around the knees...took ages to get the peg marks out

marvelousways · 15/09/2018 14:17

@Rebacca36 really? My neighbours washing is not my business? How am I meant to nosey into their garden from my upstairs window when confronted with a ramshackle washing line?????? WinkBiscuit
