Wisdom teeth removal and ulcers

Fucking HELL.

I had a wisdom tooth taken out Tuesday. Hurt a fair bit, has hurt a fair bit since. Was expecting that.

What I wasn't expecting was the assing great puss ridden ulcers that have appeared near it! Is this a thing with wisdom teeth removal?!

It's SO fucking painful. I can't even notice the tooth pain next to it.

Dentist is shut until fucking Monday now.

Anyone had this and have tips? I've been rinsing with salt water and taking ibuprofen and both are useless. At night I've been eating some weed chocolate (that's quite strong) that a friend gave me and as I never smoke weed and haven't for the last 15 or so years it's having quite the effect but obviously with a 4 year old ds it's not something I can rely on in the day!

I can't think of anything else the pain is so bad, looking on a dentist forum they say these ulcers can last up to 8 weeks!!!! SadSadSad

You need to call 111 - they book you in for an emergency dentist appointment. Could be an infection.
I know calling 111 sounds extreme but it isn't. It's what that number is for, emergencies which this is.
I had an abscess and Infection after having a tooth removed recently, it was on a weekend, my dentist was shut. I turned yo at A&E to be told they don't have dentists there anymore and can't help me.
They told me to call 111. I did, I got an appointment the next day at an emergency NHS dentist.
You have to pay for treatment depending on which band it is. Lowest price starts at £22 or something close.
Your in pain, and taking weed chocolate as a remedy. Call 111 you won't regret it!

Ah sorry, should have mentioned I'm in the States. (In a state where weed is legal so not doing anything bad lol!)

I may go and see my doctor tomorrow. They won't just tell me to bugger off because it's a dental thing? Although it's actually not I guess at this point!

Saltwater is good, tastes rank but it cleans it out.
I split my tooth right down the centre on a fuckin burger! Cheap ass cuts of meat - I chomped on a really hard gristle n it split my tooth in two and the nerve was exposed. So yeah I know pain, n I sympathise with you.

Ah don't you guys have a emergency medical number over there? It's all part n parcel of our NHS service here in UK. But I suppose it's different over there as all medical stuff is privatised isn't it and you have to have medical insurance or pay for all your treatments. Best bet is to see the Doctor I would say yeah!

MrsZB · 14/09/2018 01:10

Redeineallmine- what did do for your tooth? Did they fix it?

glagdy · 14/09/2018 01:13

@RedWineAllMine argh! That sounds painful!!!!

We have an out of hours doctor but we're quite remote and I can see him being annoyed if I call him for his. First thing tomorrow I will though!!

If you pat some bicarbonate soda on with your finger (or swish some diluted in water - a lot stronger than you think) it should help a lot!

glagdy · 14/09/2018 01:15

I've tried salt water. Didnt do much.

Wondering whether to put lidocaine on it or germoline.

OP posts:
glagdy · 14/09/2018 01:15

@justilou1 thanks! I'll try it!!

Saltwater doesn't rid of the pain, it's more of a antiseptic and keeps the area clean. So carry on with the salt water rinse as it will do it good. We have bonjella over here it's a gum cream - it's used for babies when they are teething. So if you have teething gel for babies in shops you could try that in the mean time? I had killer toothache n used bonjella on my gum and it numbed the pain.

glagdy · 14/09/2018 01:24

Bonjella was something I meant to bring back last time!

No shops are open now. ☹️

I'll try ringing friends with kids!

MrsZB they couldn't save the tooth, it had to be pulled out. I was in the dentists chair for over an hour as the tooth wouldn't budge. I had to have 3 lots of anaesthetic as it kept on wearing off and that crunching sound when they finally get the tooth haunts me it's just awful! Let's just say it's put me off cheap cuts of meat for life! I pay extra now for good bbq meat stuff.

RedWineAllMine · 14/09/2018 01:27

Luckily for me it's my back tooth, so no one can see the awful gap except me.

JuniperBeer · 14/09/2018 01:32

Lidocaine gel will help if it’s the stuff that’s designed to go in your mouth?

glagdy · 14/09/2018 01:36

Its not. I think it's an outside body topical cream.

Can't hurt that much though? At least I'd get some sleep. I feel like stabbing the big one with a fork!!! I keep putting salt on it hoping it'll shrivel up like a slug.

JuniperBeer · 14/09/2018 08:29

There’s something about putting lidocaine on mucosal membranes when it isn’t suitable for it. If it’s not the right dose it could have side effects. It’s been a long time and I can’t rememebr why!

Don’t put salt on it!! Ok to swish with salt water, as hot as you can handle but not direct salt... you’re not a slug and it’ll just irritate it!

Are they normal ulcers? Little white ones or are they big huge ones with puss? I always pop little ulcers but wouldn’t touch big huge ones!

Have you got any sore throat spray around?

MrsZB · 14/09/2018 08:48

Redwineallmine- poor you! That sounds awful.

Hope your ulcers clear up soon OP.

glagdy · 14/09/2018 12:24

@MrsZB thank you!

@JuniperBeer they aren't like the little white ones I sometimes get. The big one is long and angry, looks like there's pus involved. As soon as doctors is open I'm in there like a rat up a drainpipe!

OP posts:
glagdy · 14/09/2018 12:51

In the back of my mind I thought the lidocaine was a stupid idea!

Had a dreadful night's sleep. The pot chocolate just made me all strung out and have odd dreams.

Now it's so big it's catching on my teeth every time I move my mouth.

Looking at Dr google it's actually really common and caused by the trauma of having the tooth out.
