Could I eat what I want and walk 20k steps

Just as the title says do you think it is possible to eat what I want and burn it off by doing 20,000 steps? I am following slimming world but just love food so much!

Surely if I run around at top speed getting loads of steps in, I can eat all my favourite foods!

Just setting alarm clock for 530 to race around my living room!!

You can't out exercise a poor diet. 20k steps is about 1000 calories for the average person.... so depending on how many calories what you want adds up to, I'd say no. Sorry.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 13/09/2018 22:35

Nope Hmm

Hairytangerine · 13/09/2018 22:36

I thought it was 1000 for 10k.

This is lighthearted by the way!

Nope

Hoppinggreen · 13/09/2018 22:37

No
I don’t eat what I want but I do overeat, I also do 100000 every day and sometimes 20000 and I’m overweight

Hairytangerine · 13/09/2018 22:37

Ha ha ok! Back to counting syns!

if you want to eat low(ish) calorie and healthy foods. yes.

if your definition of 'eat what I want' is calorie dense food and lots of it. nope. not a chance.

PurpleWithRed · 13/09/2018 22:38

Iirc food has 4x more impact on weight loss than exercise (not sure where I got that from). Anyway, short answer is no. Longer answer is it depends on ‘what I want’ means, but probably not.

PickleSarnie · 13/09/2018 22:39

Depends what all your favourite foods are. But I'm guessing that because you're doing slimming world they're fairly calorific. Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise they say. Exercise does burn calories and it helps you feel better so you make better choices. It doesn't give you the ability to eat anything you want and lose weight.

I'm also doing slimming world. There's loads of nice food you can eat on it.

I've given myself Christmas to look forward too. A week of eating and drinking! It's making the weeks running up to it more bearable.

MsJaneAusten · 13/09/2018 22:39

No. I average around 18,000. I’m slim but not losing weight. Apparently it’s food that makes the difference to weight; exercise is more for fitness and toning.

GummyGoddess · 13/09/2018 22:39

Depends how much you weigh. At my higher weights I can indeed out exercise a crap diet and did so very successfully. When nearer the top end of the ideal bmi category I don't stand a chance.

FelixTitling · 13/09/2018 22:39

I doubt it. Anyway, short bursts (10 mins+) of vigorous activity are better for you than plodding away for hours.

Troels · 13/09/2018 22:39

I log everything on myfitness pal app on my phone, I did 13,174 steps today and it only gave me 106 calories for it, so I doubt it very much.
I'm sticking between 1200 and 1300 cals a day and eat lots. It's about picking what you eat. I save calories for the evening when I get snacky.
Work out when it is you are weakest, for me it's after tea. Try to save snacking calories for then.

Hairytangerine · 13/09/2018 22:40

I’ve eaten what I wanted today and according to my fitness pal that’s 1800 calories and I’ve done 23k steps so there has to be some defect there

Hairytangerine · 13/09/2018 22:40

Defecit 🙈

I'm a good 3st overweight (also doing SW.... again!) 10k steps for me is about 400 calories.

JovialNickname · 13/09/2018 22:44

Sadly I don't think it reply works like that - I wish it did though!! Then I would be with you running round the living room for sure Grin

10,000 steps is what is recommended daily to maintain weight, and for general aerobic wellness for a normal healthy person eating within their calorie limits. Doubling the amount of steps doesn't allow for that much more food sadly. If you look up the amount of steps required to burn off an apple or something it is surprisingly high - 20 minutes on a bike or something Confused

I don't know if this is something you would consider by when I was trying to lose weight I took up running. Just 15 minutes each night (I did it after dark as I didn't want anyone to see me). It suppressed my appetite slightly and I lost weight quickly even though I didn't change what I ate day to day. I had whatever I wanted I just tried to not eat if I wasn't hungry! That and the running did really slim me down quickly and I am not a slim or exercise - motivated girl x

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 13/09/2018 22:57

There was a period of about 5 or 6 months where I was Walking about 6 miles a day Monday to Friday as well as the general moving about you do during the day at work or doing housework. I was eating what I liked and lost weight and stayed slim but it wasn’t entirely because of the walking I also didn’t have as much time to eat crap.

Hairytangerine · 13/09/2018 22:57

Yep diet it is. Shame though thought I had came up with the perfect solution!

IWantMyHatBack · 13/09/2018 22:58

If 'eating what you want' is going to be 1800 calories, then of course you'll be fine Hmm

The tone of your OP implied that you wanted to eat shit loads and expected to be able to walk it off.

NewtScamandersNaughtyNiffler · 13/09/2018 22:58

I wish. I average 19000 steps per day. Don't eat loads of junk. (E.g. had salad for lunch today and pasta with bacon for dinner)
I'm still gaining weight HmmAngrySadGrin
