Is there a problem with carrots at the moment?

I always buy carrots in my online shop but in the past few weeks, they've been unavailable. When I have got them, they've been pretty scrawny looking and not stayed fresh for long.

They were unavailable again this week so I picked some up when I was passing a supermarket. Again, they are small and not very fresh looking.

Anyone else noticed this? Is it to do with the heatwave?

yep heatwave.

The price is going to rise, and quality is going to drop due to the heatwave. As a chef I get my fruit and veg from a wholesaler and it’s definately not been great for the last couple of weeks, and invoices are arriving with footnotes about price increases and shortages. 😫

I have bought some in both Sainsburys and Waitrose recently and they have been fine - sweet and crunchy .

Chef DH says it's the hot summer and it will effect most UK crop (info come from his suppliers).

I noticed this the other day too - carrots looking ever so sad.

My carrots turned black and spotty really quickly. Usually they last in the fridge for ages. They were fine when I’d peeled them, so they weren’t rotten. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen this.

Yes, they do usually last for ages in the fridge but they went manky really quickly last week.

Tesco's ones are particularly bad imo

We grow most of our own veggies. The carrots have been awful, to non existent this year, as a result of the hot summer. On the plus side, our cauliflower have been excellent, as have our green and broad beans. As for the raspberries, we've been giving them away in fisfulls. Not too many strawberries this year though. Swings and roundabouts in our climate. The tomatoes have been as abundant as ever, but are much tastier (more sun) than in other years
