Today my manager sent me and colleague an email to thank us for some work we did.

Colleague then responded thanking him for the email.

Except he’d also cc’d in three other managers and their manager as well. Confused

That's not brown nosing, that's making sure the other managers know about the good work that has been done. How fortunate that their braggery happens to put you in a good light.

Now, what you do is, reply just to your manager and say thanks. Wink

I used to work with this woman who copied everything our manager wore, same shoes, same dress. She started standing the same way too and finding excuses to have a chat with said manager. Then she got her hair done the same colour/cut. It was absolutely cringeworthy and I felt embarrassed for her.
But it sort of worked, because she got a promotion. My goodness though, she was crass.

Well, I sent a report out today highlighting how incredibly well I have done my job recently.

I am going to increase my hourly rate 25% next week so I wanted to make it clear beforehand that I'm worth it. So that's probably not really properly brown-nosing Grin

To be honest, I've noticed that those that are more 'infront' of management tend to get promoted as they tend to highlight their good work a lot more whether or not anyone else was involved in it. I had a colleague that was excellent - she saved my bacon and that of others more than once, but rarely shouted about it from the rooftops. I'm not saying that shouting about it is the way to go forward but it never hurts to make management aware of what you are doing and that you've done it well. My ex manager would often send our team e-mails with various instructions - I'd always make a point of replying when it was done, she would e-mail back saying "Thanks, Vlad, well done on xyz" When she was looking for a wing-woman she sent me a direct e-mail and that's pretty much how I got started.
