Any vets here? ‘Ulcer’ on cat’s tongue (photo)

I am looking after my parents’ cat for the week and I noticed she has something that looks like a big ulcer on her tongue. I have no idea how long it’s been there - parents are unlikely to notice something like that. She is eating fine and doesn’t seem in any discomfort. I work in a full time regular job in the week, but this weekend I’m also working both long days, so it will be very difficult to take her to the vet. Does this look like something that should be seen immediately by a vet? Parents won’t be back until Tuesday night.

Vet here. Tongue ulcers can be extremely painful, cause halitosis (smelly breath), stop them eating, drinking, grooming and cause salivation. Can be caused by metabolic conditions eg renal diseas, viral disease or licking something caustic. I would keep a very close eye on the cat and take to a vet if any of these symptoms occur. X

Any sneezing or weepy eyes? It could be cat flu.

I'm another vet. How old is the cat?

Gizimodo · 13/09/2018 21:49

She is about 8 and gets her boosters every year. She doesn’t have any of the other symptoms listed. She does have various food allergies so she’s on a hypoallergenic diet, but she’s an only cat so there’s no risk of getting hold of food she shouldn’t (other than wildlife).
