How to report animal cruelty when rspca won't help?

Does anyone have any idea what I can do? Neighbour has two mistreated and neglected dogs. It's absolutely heartbreaking. I have reported to rspca in the past, they aren't interested. Other neighbours have reported too.

I am also afraid of repurcussisions as these are not pleasant people. Does anyone have any advice?

In what way are they mistreated and neglected? What did RSPCA day?

rankoutsider · 13/09/2018 11:53

Two huge dogs, left in little yard for 10 plus hours daily. No shelter/water/food. Extremely distressed crying and scrabbling for hours.

Never walked, owner screams at them occasionally. Alsation type is very thin, big black dog has a red sore on his snout. This is all weathers. I am listening to them crying now Sad. rspca said they don't get involved with noisy dogs. It's not the noise that bothers me, it's the distress of these poor dogs.

Try the Dogs trust

Dog warden?

Cobrider · 13/09/2018 12:01

Social media can be really effective in these situations, if you can tweet from an anonymous account or ask in local FB groups. I had a very bad experience with the RSPCA not assisting in a case of blatant cruelty.
I posted to them on Twitter with photos and the public outcry pressured them in to doing something.

Call back and don’t mention noise?

womanintrousers · 13/09/2018 12:03

I had a terrible time with neighbours who severely neglected a range of animals. Then they started neglecting their grandchildren as well. The police, rspca etc weren’t interested until I had a series of pictures and videos over several weeks and told the rspca I would be publishing the photos and all my communications with them on Facebook. I wouldn’t have because I was scared of the neighbours but the threat worked and they did a visit and removed 17 animals from the house, 9 of which were destroyed. No court case, not banned and they acquired more animals soon afterwards. They knew we’d reported them (rspca told them) so they started reporting us to the police for hate crimes, vandalising our car and verbally abusing our children. Then the reports to ss for neglecting our children started. And they started videoing the children when they were playing outside etc. It was really awful. We sold up and moved. I don’t have any advice for you but tread carefully. Good luck. Poor dogs :(

Cross posted with pp. what a terribly sad state of affairs when rspca are more concerned with their reputation than preventing animal cruelty :(

QuestionableMouse · 13/09/2018 12:05

Report online and include photos.

You could also try your local police who might be able to help.

Thankyou. Have had previous experience of rspca being useless. Dog warden and police just directs me to rspca. Will try dogs trust.

It sounds like someone has taken down notes on your call but mainly/only recording a noise complaint rather than lack of food, medical problems etc. I would call/email the RSPCA back with more details of the animals' conditions, and photos.

rankoutsider · 13/09/2018 12:12

Thankyou womanintrousers. My main concern is these poor dogs. I am sitting here listening to them so agitated for the past 4 hours. I can't get photos but my ndn can from his upstairs window.

This is every day rain or shine. To be honest I am afraid, the couple are always screaming at each other and the male has an electronic tag. When i reported to rspca (some time ago) they insist on name and address etc. I know two other neighbours have reported too.

Thanks for all replies. Have never used twitter, but will give it a go.

Well done for trying to help them OP.

One of my mum's neighbours was breeding dogs continuously and they were being kept in horrendous conditions. My dad reported them numerous times to the rspca but they never did anything. Eventually everybody on the street reported them, and some people on the street across took photos etc the rspca eventually acted. It was horrible when they finally removed the animals they were in such a bad condition. So do keep on at the rspca and if you can include pictures I would.

Don’t make it about the noise. Say it’s conditions - lack of food/water/shelter and an untreated injury. The dogs trust won’t help, they don’t do door knocks.
