Do I need to pay my TV license?

Hi,

I'm due to move into a new build, we have found out you don't get a aerial with the house which is annoying and will cost us £200 to get one fitted, me and OH have decided we might not bother with one as we only ever use Netflix or are amazon box when watching tele so don't actually need a aerial, my question is will we still need to pay our tv license even though we're not watching any live television.

All programmes will either be watched on Netflix or the amazon box, even shows like love island or bake off I can watch on the amazon box

Just not sure if this is classed as recorded tv as it's from a completely different source...

Thanks

If you can demonstrate that you are not either watching or recording live tv (or using BBC iplayer) you have no legal requirement to hold a tv licence.

I think as long as you’re not watching on bbciplayer, 4OD, you don’t need a license. To watch on Netflix and amazon I think you’re fine

This tells you what you need to know about a license www.tvlicensing.co.uk/about/foi-legal-framework-AB16

Basically if you are not watching live tv or bbc programmes on demand you won’t need a license

Is Bake Off on the BBC? If you use the iplayer app, you need a licence.

We don't have an aerial (well there are two, but neither of them pick up usable TV signals) so all our TV viewing is on Freesat or catch up etc on Now TV, including BBC iplayer.

We could live without the BBC, but it would be annoying and there would be a few things we'd miss like Blue Planet, which is the sort of thing that's worth the licence fee on it's own, so for the sake of £12 a month, we're happy to pay it.

Maliali you don't need a licence to watch 4od (which isn't actually called 4od now)

Bake off is on channel 4 so won’t be a problem
