Am I being realistic in asking for an induction?

I have little of no experience of this so I wondered what others experiences were, or just general opinions on whether I'm being reasonable or ridiculous.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my third child.
He has an issue with his heart, which will not (hopefully) effect the working shift of his heart but can have a detrimental effect to his breathing and feeding.

Yesterday I met with the neonatal consultant who was lovely. He said he wanted me to have the baby in a different hospital to the one I originally chose because that's there the doctors are, that's where the NICU and SCBU is.
He said the baby could be born with zero symptoms, the baby could be born with severe symptoms and the baby could be born with symptoms ranging between the two extremes and we cannot tell until he's born. Hense the extra care.
If he's very bad, we'll be transferred to Evelina. If not, he'll have his operation at the Evelina at 12 months like planned.

With my second DS I was in active labour for less than an hour.

To gain back some control of this situation and to be reassured that we are in the right place when he is born, I was concidering suggestion to the obstetrician tomorrow that I have an induction.

Is this the kind of situation where I could have an induction?
My first was an induction and he came out quite fast for an induced baby as well.

I don't believe his baby is going to hang around in utero very long once the contractions start.

I think it makes a lot of sense to discuss birth plan with your consultant, and ideally one at the hospital you will be giving birth at.

Well I was given an induction for dc3 simply because I had horrendous gallbladder pain - so I’d be very surprised if you were denied, unless this could put pressure on wee ones heart?

Hoping everything goes well for you Smile

Other option to discuss may be an elective c section?

I think an induction for a third baby after two successful deliveries is perfectly sensible. It probably won't take too much to get it started and can help with having the right people around.

Oh no, definitely not a c-section. I don't understand how that could beneficial to be honest. Unless he was in distress of course.

I believe his heart is working perfectly fine although I have an MRI for further checks in London in a few weeks.

Thanks NorthernLurker, I agree I don't feel like it would take too much.
With DS1 I only needed 1 pessary.

I have inductions with my 2nd, 3rd and 4th dc solely due to speed of labour and wanting to make it to the hospital and have childcare for the older ones (dc1 was 1hour 10, dc2 50 minutes, dc3 41 minutes ) so with the added heart condition that’s definitely reasonable.

Ok that's really helpful to know, thank you.
