Eggs breaking on journey home from supermarket!

Has anyone got any tips on managing to get home with your big weekly shop and still have a dozen perfect eggs with absolutely none broken! Most weeks there is at least 1 broken if not 2. I always check the box before putting them in the trolley to make sure there aren't any already cracked, I then pack them carefully with soft items such as kitchen towel and pocket tissues etc, I put them in the boot making sure they can't fall over and then drive the short journey home on a smooth road! When putting the shopping away, lo and behold there's eggs either cracked or broken! Tell me how you pack yours please?

I have never had this problem either. Are you travelling home in a horse and cart?

implantsandaDyson · 12/09/2018 21:19

Nope never happens to me either and I play fast and loose with egg safety. The cardboard box usually gets turfed on top of other groceries and just put in the boot - no special wrapping measures.

Hayles88 · 12/09/2018 21:22

Never happened to me. How are you packing them? How bad is your driving? I've never heard of anyone breaking eggs driving home.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/09/2018 21:23

A lot of egg Mavericks on this thread, stack and go gals
I’m clearly a cautious type, hell maybe one day I’ll just cut loose. No bubble wrap

redsummershoes · 12/09/2018 21:24

do you buy eggs in an open tray instead of in an egg box?

TheSmallAssassin · 12/09/2018 21:27

I've never had this happen either. I put eggs at the bottom of my stronger, rectangular, carrier bags with other store cupboard things on top of them so that they stay put. Eggs are actually very stong when they are stood upright.

elQuintoConyo · 12/09/2018 21:28

I wrap my eggs up in fluffy bunnies and tuck them in my cleavage.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/09/2018 21:29

Haha, elquinto

delphguelph · 12/09/2018 21:30

Stick em in the front seat.

Some great responses here! Yes I meant to say I'm not a crazy 😜 driver either! Good point though from whoever asked if it could be the particular brand of eggs we buy as hadn't thought of that.... it is always the same brand and I just made some egg mayo for sandwiches tomorrow and now that u mention it the shells do seem very thin so maybe that's the problem!

I buy happy eggs they’re pretty robust

Pebblespony · 12/09/2018 21:59

I'm very cavalier with eggs. Never had a broken one either. I always get the ones in cardboard boxes.

Sniv · 12/09/2018 21:59

I think you have a mongoose living in your boot.

Babybearsporij · 12/09/2018 22:01

I wrap mine up in a couple of bags and stick them on the top of the bag with the soft stuff in - bread, bananas, multipacks of crisps etc. I wedge the bag in between hard & heavy stuff as well so it's not as likely to fall over. I'm paranoid about eggs breaking, but they never have.

confusedofengland · 12/09/2018 22:07

Actually, somebody saying on here how strong eggs are has reminded me of something. My DH comes up with ideas for TV shows & one of his ideas for a kids' TV show (Gastronuts, I think) was to see if you could stand a car on eggs. You can (about 1200 of them ihrc). We ate a lot of eggs when he wrote that programme Shock

MustBeThin · 12/09/2018 22:15

I put all my bread/breadcakes in their own bag so they don't get squashed and then put my box of eggs in with them. Never had a broken one

PoxAlert · 12/09/2018 22:21

Another who has never had this happen.

And trust me I'm not careful!

I'm trying to figure out what you must do to the OP.

Fluffyears · 12/09/2018 22:27

Never had cracked eggs and i’mnot That careful. They got packed into a bag with btead, crisps, noodles, loo rolls, kitchen towels and crackers (delicate items). That bag is always kept on top of the others when taking trolley to car. After that DH takes bags into house (I have a back issue) and isn’t gentle about it. Not one broken...ever!

redsummershoes · 12/09/2018 22:37

maybe stop using bags and use crates instead?
easier to stack food into those without toppling and easier to carry into the house as well.

LanguidLobster · 12/09/2018 22:40

It's a new conundrum on me!

Like the idea of a mongoose lurking in the boot

JustlikeDevon · 12/09/2018 22:48

Never happened to me either. What eggs do you buy? The last lot I bought I had to proper whack them with the fork to crack them!

AwdBovril · 12/09/2018 22:57

We've never had this happen. We have over a mile to walk home (we don't drive), with a ridiculously lively 6 year old. I think your car must be haunted by a poltergeist...

WooooooOOOOOOoooooo!
