Private ASD assessment Scotland?

Has anyone taken their child down the private route for ASD?

No, mainly because I heard that it isn't accepted as a proper diagnosis? Absolutely no idea if that is true or not. But 10 years ago it was much quicker to get seen, the wait is 2 years now.
My son has aspergers, and tbh, we cope fine alone, was just thinking that haven't even heard from SENCO in over a year, if not more!
He is 14yo.

Sorry, meant to ask, is it a waiting thing that makes you think of private diagnosis?

hobblesma · 12/09/2018 13:20

I'm just interested in finding anyone that may have been through it.

I'm with Eleanor - we were reluctant because some places just wont accept a diagnosis made privately. We held out and pushed with NHS and got there in the end, it was pretty much an open and shut case when we finally got the assessment referral though

The post wasn't about NHS v Private.

Why be so rude? We've just pointed out an issue that a private diagnosis can cause?

Best of luck :/

hobblesma · 12/09/2018 13:58

I'm not being rude? I was asking about a private diagnosis and I got questioned! I think it's reasonable to point out that wasn't the question I was asking.

In that case, no, I don't know anyone who did this. As they realised it appeared pointless?

We are considering a private asd assesment, as it's covered by our bupa health insurance for our DS. He has been 'referred' to the consultant community paed privately by another consultant paed who we saw through bupa. (Both consultants also work within NHS). We are waiting a few months as my DS is young and is involved with SALT and due to start preschool so going to give him a few more months to see if there is any improvement.

We feel we have nothing to lose and may speed things up through the NHS is need be, information and early intervention.

We aren't in Scotland I'm afraid. Good luck.

I'm not here to argue the point for private diagnosis, but you can't say it's pointless. There is a place for it otherwise it wouldn't be available. Whether you personally think it is pointless or not is irrelevant. I was merely asking if anybody had. I have read many people on here who have done it in England, I was just looking for advice on clinics in Scotland. I wasn't expecting to be goaded into an explanation as to why I was considering this route. I do have reasons, and I am fully aware of the consequences of doing this, but that wasn't the point of my post so I'm not going to be going over them.
