Did anyone else read the Lorna Hill '... at the Wells' books as a child?

These flashed into my mind this morning, having not even thought about them for 30+ years!

I was talking about books I'd loved as a child to my DD and obviously I remembered the Noel Streatfields straight away, and then right out of the darkest recesses of my brain came the Lorna Hill books.

I LOVED them, re-read every single one at least 15 times.

I'm kind of hoping my parents still have them in the attic as I'm not sure they're still in print?

Anyone else remember these? I was definitely the only one of my friends who read them so maybe they were a bit niche?

Whoa this takes me back. My mum bought me a three-in-one edition because she liked the books when she was young. Need to google it now Smile

Some of these were my mum's and my cousin's, the rest I have bought over the last 25 years or so. I have spent anything up to £75 on one of these Shock

But my best score was some years ago. A man was on local news on the television, he was a bookshop owner and in the interview I spotted one on the shelf behind him. So I tracked down his shop and emailed him to ask how much it was, and got it for £10 as he was having a 50% off sale!

Yes - I read them and loved them and was only thinking about them the other day. DD is having ballet lessons and I secretly hope she might fulfill my childhood fantasies and become a famous dancer!

No idea where they are now - they seem to have disappeared along with my Antonia Forest collection...

Now I've got bookcase envy! Smile

Was one of the later books about them meeting up after the end of the war, a long train journey through France? Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Oh yes! Such lovely books.

I especially loved Swan Feather, those scary teddy boys and the sadness that was dominant in the beginning of the book... I think it was my first touch of real tragedy in a book.

I loved these books so much.

I always think of them when I see a sign for Crianlarich. I think it was Jane who tried to climb up the mountain and got saved by Guy?

Loved them. Wanted to have my own Sebastian , and didn't one of the characters sponsor a monkey at London Zoo?
The part that really stands out is when Veronica dances at the Christmas party. How i wished it was me!
