For whatever reason DD1 has for a while been obsessed with south Korea swhe wants to work there as an au pair for a yea after A levels , but I am a little concerned as she has no street smarts at all.She has worked with children since she was 14 in a sports club and wants to teach primary

Any advice?

I think that sounds nice - do they have a British embassy out there?

Is she into the film/food out there?

It might be worthwhile trying to find an expat network out there so she has some people to talk to. She's really young but it might be an experience of a lifetime

Let her go, if you're really worried then set aside the money for an emergency flight home (without telling her) so you that at least she can be rescued if need be.
South Korea, is a wealthy developed funky place its no more dangerous than London/Paris.

This is how she will get her street smarts! Being an au pair will give her a safe family base and as she already has the language that will help. The experience will also help her with teaching. It doesn't seem like a waste of time. Are you worried that it is?

I should imagine south Korea to be fairly safe. Dd spent a summer in China when she was 16yo and loved it. Said she felt very safe and this was Beijing centre. She wants to go back for a gap year.

is she into kpop by any chance?!

Seoul is pretty safe and english speaker friendly although knowing Korean and the basics of formalities will help a lot - it’s a very different culture!

I have always wanted to go, she’ll probably have a great time. A lot of people go to teach english - lots of videos on YouTube about it if she wants to research

PM me if you would like OP, I lived there when I was 22 for two years, working in a school. Didn't know a soul (Seoul Grin )
