Travelling to Twickenham from the North east

Dh and the dcs are off to the rugby and I've offered to drive. Ideally I'd like to kick them out about an hour north of Twickenham Nd have them get a straightforward train from there, is there anywhere obvious? Bonus points if there's a nice shopping centre with free parking i can buy a coffee and read my book in.

There's a big tesco next to the stadium with 3 hours free parking. You can drop them and drive to Richmond but have to park in the car park which isn't free or on street parking which again isn't free and spend the day by the river. Lots of places to eat in Richmond or you can even take a pack lunch and sit by the river or go window shopping.

Windsor is the best bet. I’m not sure if the park and ride still runs, that might be an option, or you could go to legoland!!!

I don't mind paying for parking, would happily pay for a day's parking somewhere where there's stuff to do.

Drop them by the stadium and spend the day in Richmond. Lots to do there. There's a free gallery in the big free library by the river, cinema, theatres, lots of shops, Richmond Park etc lots to do.

Barely 10 minutes drive from Twickenham

StealthPolarBear · 12/09/2018 10:50

It will be awful on rugby day though surely

Windsor is lovely Smile
Best place to park is at the station (Riverside), £4 all day. Avoid the big multi-storey and the ones directly by the river, they’re very expensive.
There’s a Costa across the river in Eton that backs on to the river, might be a bit chilly in November but it’s lovely spot. Otherwise there’s an abundance of coffee shops in Windsor near the castle. If the Christmas lights are already on it can be very nice.

Righr, Windsor it is. I think. Thanks everyone.

Oh Stealth I'm Teesside too, the drive to Windsor isn't too bad of a one, and you could and I'm sure there's ample parking (we were there over a bank holiday and wasn't terrible)
I'm just not a huge fan of the A1 south and rainfall, but that's more my nervy driving rather than anything else.

I now have visions of you wrapped up in a coffee shop on a crisp November day, reading a book and looking out of the window at Windsor Castle

argh I have no idea why i wrote 'and you could' Proofread required!

StealthPolarBear · 12/09/2018 11:17

That's really good to know thank you. I hope that's the reality :)

Richmond won’t be fun to drive to and parking you’ll need to pay, plus it rugby folks around (some get lunch there pre match).

If you go to Staines I can meet you for lunch. That won’t be awkward 😂
