Went to bed fine last night, slept normally, now can't get out of bed for pain. Am OK on sides, bit sore flat on back, but cannot sit or get out of bed. Dh has taken kids to school, I've tried to wee a bit on some old nappies, have taken ibuprofen, paracetamol, can't seem to find muscular pain.

Think it's hips? Can move legs freely when laid on side, can't stretch anything off, just can't get up az pain is unbearable, what the fuck do I do?

Phone 111

Borntobeamum · 12/09/2018 08:12

Wait for the pain relief to kick in then make a Drs appointment x

Ouch - with no forewarning and it came on suddenly you need medical advice

Dh is coming back, but even with his help what do I do? Call the gp?

Call 111, having to piss in your own bed is quite a sign really!

Best of luck it's probably just an awful muscle spasm Flowers

AndreasFault · 12/09/2018 08:15

Didn't even think of 111 not thinking straight at all, just in a what the fuck fuzz, thanks

Please ensure you are seen and fully assessed by ct or MRI scan, hopefully this is nothing more than a muscle spasm but it could be Cauda Equine Syndrome which untreated can have long lasting, life changing consequences.

Well with dh help managed to get to the loo then ended up on the bathroom floor. 111 sent an ambulance with gas and air to get me back to bed and dh gone for diazepam. Can't get my head around what's happened - feel fine horizontal, just can't do vertical stand or sit. Hoping it's a muscle spasm, but fuck it's sore to move. Feel such a twat needing the ambulance and would have happily still been on the bathroom floor, but at least medication is on it's way.

I have something similar to this every few years. I go to bed fine and wake up unable to move properly. The pain seems to be in the ligament right at the top of my inner leg and it’s agony. Can barely move, pain knocks me sick, and painkillers don’t touch it. Docs never able to explain it so watching this thread with interest.

dustiseverywhere · 12/09/2018 12:33

I do not understand. You say you are in agony when you sit or stand up. Where is the pain though? What part of your body?

AndreasFault · 12/09/2018 16:01

It's lower back /hip - hard to pinpoint, painkillers are helping thank goodness, have managed to get out of bed and down the stairs, but it was bloody hard going. Everything feels 'soapy' and not quire real.

Sounds like severe sciatica, you poor thing. I knew someone who was bedridden for weeks with it (she's fine now BTW). Standard advice is usually to get as mobile as the pain realistically allows, i.e. rest and take things gently but do keep moving. It does ease off eventually.

GallicosCats · 12/09/2018 16:11

The unreal feeling will be the diazepam, it does space you out. It's usually recommended to switch to something like Voltarol or ibuprofen once the acute phase is over.

Singlenotsingle · 12/09/2018 16:14

Polymialgia? When I first got it I couldn't get out of bed. 15 minutes to sit up, and another 15 mins to get down on all fours to crawl to the bathroom. GP prescribed prednisolone. 3 years later still on a very low dose. Pm me if you need more info as I don't want to bore everyone on here!

CrispbuttyNo1 · 13/09/2018 22:01

How are you feeling today OP?, i was like this for two days, completely unable to move other than in agony and screaming in pain. Woke up on day 3 and bounced out of bed like tigger, right as rain. I hope this will be the case for you on day 3 or sooner.

AndreasFault · 15/09/2018 11:24

Well here we are, 3 days on, and still can't really understand what the hell happened. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary on Tuesday and went to bed feeling fine. Wednesday morning, woke up, stretched a bit, then went to get out of bed to be thwarted by horrendous pain.
Tried to stretch it off a bit, tried again, couldn't do it. After half an hour or so of trying, called down to dh to help, but couldn't stand the pain of trying to sit/stand.

DH took the kids to school and I tried to wee in a nappy (not to be recommended, but needs must) and I posted here. Then phoned 101 and waited for a call back. After an hour or so I really needed to get to the loo so dh pretty much dragged me screaming at which point 101 rang back, dh answered, I used the loo and just slid onto the floor as no pain when laying down, and spoke to 101 when I'd stopped sobbing.

She'd obviously heard the commotion and was concerned, but on the floor I wasn't in pain at all. Said choices were a visit from gp or paramedics as I couldn't stay on the floor (I disputed this bit, as fine on the floor). Anyway an ambulance arrived, had check over and gas and air to get back to bed - advised to take some when laid down before movement and it really does make you giggle when you're not in pain - such a twat!!

Anyway, not so funny when I did move but managed to get back to bed, gp prescribed diazepam and strong co-codamol over the phone and dh dispatched to collect. After a couple of hours the painkillers kicked in and I managed to get to the loo again and slid down the stairs - was pretty much out of it for 24 hours and slept a lot. Then Thursday afternoon suddenly felt a lot better, could get up and move around with a little help, Friday was even better and although still feel a little stiff today, all is well.

Paramedic said it was probably a muscle spasm, probably was, it's gone now thank fuck, and the whole episode seems a bit unreal. Feel ridiculous that an ambulance came out, but with hindsight I did need to get off the floor at some point although probably would've been able to do it a few hours later once pain relief had been given (assuming of course that gp could visit).

Thanks to all that commented and advised - it says something that I thought to post on here without 111 crossing my tiny mind! Really hope that it doesn't happen again!

shit, that was long, sorry

Glad you are feeling better. It does sound very similar to what I have had. The pain is terrible, it literally took my breath away and knocked me sick.

DolorestheNewt · 15/09/2018 12:32

it says something that I thought to post on here without 111 crossing my tiny mind!
I came across a (very young) colleague sobbing in pain in the middle of the night at work the other day. I'm so dozy (and, to be fair, it's such an unusual thing to happen in my life) that I took her to the hospital in a taxi rather than ringing 111, which would have been far more sensible. Now that's a tiny mind at work! So glad you're better, OP.
