Migraine- how can I feel better?

Help. I have had a migraine all day. I was sick this morning. The headache has gone with triptan but I feel like shit.

I have to go out tonight because it’s the first session of a course that I’m doing. I can’t miss it.

Is there anything that I can do that will make me feel slightly better?

I was going to say be sick, but you've already done that, it's the only thing that ever works for me really. I can sometimes nap sitting up which helps too, lying down makes it feel worse.

Not much help, hopefully someone with better advice will be along soon.

I lie in a bath , as hot as I can manage , and lie back with most of my head in the water.

Caffeine and ibuprofen. I usually have a can of red bull with the ibuprofen.....had to do this today when I discovered that migraleve is currently unavailable due to manufacturing issues!

Oh and this was recommended to me by a doctor

BrightLightsandBlackHoles · 11/09/2018 21:08

Full fat Coke and ibuprofen. Hope you feel better soon.

I find for me a good hair wash with something minty/tea tree often helps me a lot.

Or the above after a head massage from dh. I feel for you op, I hope you feel better soon.

I sometimes get really nasty headaches, the strength of which cause me to become nauseous, and if I carry on, eventually I'll normally vomit.

The only thing that stops it in its path is going to sleep frankly.

Stupomax · 11/09/2018 21:10

I actually find that sumatriptan has its own side effects, and I need to take something to make those go away - something like ibuprofen.

I find rizatriptan has much fewer side effects - just suggesting that in case you don't already know about it.

Other than that, I'd do something with a bit of caffeine, and some sugar. Be very gentle with yourself, and take it slowly. If you can take a taxi or drive instead of taking a bus then you'd be totally justified.

There are some new drugs that have come out in America that are supposed to be really good for preventing migraines. Hopefully they'll be out in the UK soon.

Full fat coke and soluble aspirin

I went to see a top migraine specialist and that was his recommendation before reaching for the triptans

DumptonPark · 11/09/2018 21:12

Poor you. Full fat coke helps when I'm at work. Then falling asleep with an ice pack on the neck usually means I'm fine the next day

SequinsOnEverything · 11/09/2018 21:17

Sometimes if eat a lot, particularly fatty foods like pizza, or even cheese by itself, along with caffeine then I can get them to go away.

MrsZB · 11/09/2018 21:17

Honestly I am lapping up all the sympathy. Thank you.

I’ve had a coffee and some Nutella on toast. Will have some paracetamol. Quick shower and will go out.

Thank you all so much :)

I used to suffer with migraines but found an organic company that really helped. Organic Burst. There Maca tablets are amazing for migraines.

theunsure · 11/09/2018 21:24

Full fat coke or original Lucozade
Rub Olbas oil on head/neck - it sinks but helps me.

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 21:27

A hot bath always makes a migraine worse for me, fresh air, a dark room, full fat coke an liquid Nurofen are what do the trick for me. I sympathise I had a migraine for 4 days a couple of weeks ago it was shitty. Hope you feel better.

FlowerPotMum · 11/09/2018 21:28

Full fat come with three asprin dissolved in.
Feel better soon. The hangover feeling is the pits :(

Pooshy · 11/09/2018 21:31

Migraleve works for me

Stupomax · 11/09/2018 21:46

Then falling asleep with an ice pack on the neck usually means I'm fine the next day

I read this as an ice pick, and actually nodded in agreement. I have often thought of just chopping off my head.

evilharpy · 11/09/2018 21:51

Original lucozade. When the headache part starts to die down a bit I get raging cravings for Lucozade - I can’t stand the stuff at any other time. It definitely helps.

Chelseajunior · 11/09/2018 21:58

Full fat coke with dissolvable aspirin works instantly Smile

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 11/09/2018 22:02

Tiger Balm on my temples and pulse points helps.

Also, I always have a frozen wet flannel in the freezer in a ziplock bag ready for migraines. Unfolded and left on my forehead it is amazing when I'm struggling. DH says it's like living with a mad person but I swear by it for the aftermath of migraines. DS1 is 12 and suffers them and always asks for a frozen flannel when he feels one coming on.

MrsZB · 12/09/2018 03:14

Thank you all so much. Honestly I felt quite despairing earlier and your comments really helped.

In the end I had a shower with tea tree oil shower gel, a coffee, paracetamol, Nutella on toast, cashew milk drunk through a strawberry flavoured straw! Headache stick on my forehead.

I made it to my course hurrah.

Off to bed soon and hoping to feel better when I wake up.
