I didn't really know where to post this so sorry if it should be elsewhere

My 5 year old has to have a tooth removed on Thursday at the dentist - I haven't told him as yet as I didn't want him to worry. But now I'm thinking I should give him some warning. When do you think is the right time to tell him

I'm so worried this is going to make him hate the dentist Sad

I would tell him on the morning of the appointment as long as it's not too rushed. That way won't have any sleepless nights.
Could say something like this...
The dentist is going to wobble one of your teeth away because it is not a happy tooth. They will make the tooth sleepy, (not you just the tooth!) They will squirt some sleepy juice round it which might feel quite cold. There will be a bit of pushing and wiggling on your tooth but it won't be sore. It won't take very long. I'll be there the whole time and afterwards we can go home and watch fave TV show together and tooth fairy will visit etc.

I agree with the above poster but would also add that it might bleed a bit but it won't hurt. In case he freaks out at seeing the blood.
